His 7-1 record vs. these 2 bafoons is the only thing he can hang his hat on, considering Meyer, SOS, and Richt, and Tubby all own him.

What do you expect him to do now, if Saban does indeed get on that plane today? I will go ahead and say what everyone is already thinking.

For the record, Bama under Saban will own UT for the next 4 or 5 years, along with the others mentioned, and will effectively end the career of CPF. If he retired today, his legacy would be 98 and owning Bama. 5 years from now, it will not be as pretty.

I doubt that Bama under Saban, or anyone else, would "own UT for the next 4 or 5 years." I think people give these coaches that did well in college and went to the NFL and bombed completely then come back to college, too much credit. Spurrier, Saban, et cetera are not godsend coaches, or else their schools would have done a better job keeping them around.

A lot of people on here have an issue with raising these coaches up on some pedestal. You have a problem with Fulmer...but say he wins the nat'l champ. in 98, goes to the NFL and wins 50% or so of his games...Is he all of a sudden some hot commodity that no college can do without?

We'll be fine. I wonder if there would be the complaints today if we had beaten Penn State. Every loss is equated with the sky falling.

You can't say what "everyone" is thinking because, frankly, not everyone thinks that.

Funny, we're 1-1 with "SOS" at South Carolina, with the loss being part of our 2005 collapse. We beat Richt real bad this year and won in 2004, so who is to say that this isn't the start of TN domination of Georgia? We won't play Tubberville for a few more years and I'm not that worried about him when we finally do.

Meyer has a lot of talent at Florida, but that was our game to win. Nothing Phil Fulmer did or didn't do kept the defense from stopping them on that drive.

I think that it doesn't matter WHO Bama has, they're not gonna be where they were for quite some time.

Saban was the highest paid coach in college football before he left. Spurrier was recently offered the highest salary ever for a college coach.

If you thinking being at .500 against a SC coach is good, then you are the ultimate example of how far UT's expectations have fallen.

Here's the thing: Bama is more dangerous than any of the others that he's already struggling with. Think back to October 2002 walking out of Neyland after Bama 34-14. Physical domination under solid leadership with Fran. His 2 years at Bama were the only 2 out of the last 10 where they had a legitimate HC. The day he left for A&M was a very good day for UT and specifically CPF. He was on the verge of turning the tables in quick fashion.

You may not agree, but if Bama gets Saban, this will be repeated, possibly beginning in 07 in tuscaloosa. Bama has been lacking one thing: leadership.

But who would we hire? There is nobody out there that will leave their job that is worth a crap to come coach at UT.

Unless we roll out a 45 million offer to Saban and one up Bama.

And this year's game was very close. Lets not forget we got a couple very fortunate tips that game and they spotted us a td within the first play.

They've all been close since they schooled us in 2002. We've nearly been beaten several times by inferior Bama teams. If a halfway decent coach gets ahold of them, we could be in trouble. If they get Saban, the Vols might as well not show up for the game. The best Vols team this century couldn't beat a Saban LSU team that had lost it's starting QB, RB, and I think their awesome wideout was even hurting. Saban's hiring means the Vols have two automatic losses each year: Florida and Bama. Those coaches are winners.
