No we don't, so why would anyone assume he can't. Where you've been and how long you've been there is not a determining factor in whether a coach is ready to call the O or the D. I've coached with guys who've been around a long time and couldn't do it and I've been around young guys who could. Some people have a good enough grasp and some don't...with that said I (like everybody else on this board) have no idea whether he can or can't because I'm not with him every day and I haven't sat and talked enough football with him to know.

Thank you - I don't think it can be said any better than that.

Or you can subscribe to the theory that Cut will take over for Fulmer after the 2010 season.........

very well put. My theory is that he doesn't have that grasp at least yet, because neither Cut or Fulmer have said anything to make us believe that he can. I even recall reading somewhere that TT doesn't sit it on all the meetings discussing game plans. I'm not saying TT won't make a great OC one day, just that's he doesn't appear ready now. With a program such as UT, I wouldn't want to make that kind of gamble. Of course, i'm a mere fan, i'm not a HC or AD

the Cut to NC State idea may have some merit

the question would be, do you turn the offense over to someone completely untested as a coordinator like TT or do you go a coach that has a proven track record (ie Walt Harris, or an OC from a lower tier school)?

At this point the Vols just need to start passing the collection plate to the $$$ people and give Cut a seven-figure deal through 2010 (I think 2010 is when Fulmer's contract expires).

Iirc, they give Fulmer a one-year extension every year, with the exception being last year because of 5-6.
