| Not only do I miss "Give him Six" during football season, but who can forget when he'd say "bottoms" as a vol drained a shot on the basketball court.
I feel sorry for Bob Kessling because he had to follow the footsteps of such an unforgetable and remarkable announcer. |

| Saw in today's KNS (or maybe it was yesterday) that John Ward had a hole-in-one at Green Meadows this past week. Short article said there was no word on whether or not he exclaimed, "BOTTOM!" when the ball disappeared into the cup! |

| | Trophy Mod | I think John Ward should call all Homecoming games.

There were some great announcers before John Ward, too, weren't there?

| I went to school with a guy all my life that was named after JW. He is also John Ward. When the Vols' JW was retiring, our teachers would always ask him if he'd stick around a few more years. Oye.

| JW just had a way of calling the games that made me feel like I was watching it. I listened to many a game while sitting in a tree stand and never felt like I was missing much by not seeing it. Kesling just doesn't have that same feel. |

| | Junior Member | Anytime a UT game was on TV, I'd hit the 'Mute' button and crank up the radio just to hear JW.
I've never met him, but I do have an interesting factoid connecting us: I was the final caller ever on the Kickoff Call-In Show during JW's reign (UT-FSU NC game). I correctly answered the trivia question, then wished JW and BA well.
Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee recently ordered all state flags lowered to half-mast in memory of the recently-departed "Voice of the Hogs". Can't think of his name right now. If the same honor is not ordered for JW (hopefully not anytime soon), it would be a serious injustice. |
