That is what I did last year and I got in with no problem. You just have to go at the right time where there is a rush at the gate. This way they won't really have time to stop and check for an ID. If you go where not many people are entering you won't be able to get in w/out an ID.

At UT, you absolutely have to a have a student ID (they actually swipe it and look at the picture). We are probably the most anal about this in the SEC in my opinion.

I believe you are right about us being the most anal. I have missed half of the 1st quarter when I showed up 20 minutes before kickoff before, because they INSIST on swiping everyone's card, looking at it, and then patting you down for booze, even if there are 1,000 people trying to get in the 7 turnstiles or whatever their gate has. It gets dangerous in that mob, especially if an opposing fan is acting like a jerk in the midst of it.

That is why i always go in about 45 minutes early and just wait it out. It sucks to not be able to tailgate longer, but i'm not going to miss pregame and part of the first quarter.
