Not to mention the ones that washed out. Probably happens everywhere, but just seems like a huge percentage of our 5 and high 4 star guys had problems.
Plus poor coaching as mentioned.
It isn't that big a mystery to most FSU fans.
My theory is that FSU was actually lagging in recruiting for a while. I think Ron Zook changed the dynamic in the state and they never really got on board. Other schools' fans were laughing at the stories of his insane recruiting (texting in the shower or whatever), but now that's the mentality of anyone that recruits successfully now.
I think the FSU staff kept its rankings high by closing a lot of kids that were questionable. Put it this way, if there are three elite receivers in Florida, they're going to get offers from everybody. But if one of them is more of a grades or character or work ethic risk, obviously the UF, Alabama, etc of the world are going to put them as the third priority on their board.
That's not to say they wouldn't take a chance on them in a heartbeat, but they'd put more effort into the talented kid without issues. I think FSU cleaned up on those kids in the tail end of the Bowden years. The low-hanging fruit if you will.
That's the only explanation for me how we had so many "top guys" never get on campus or see meaningful minutes.
