here's a quick word from a responssible head coach...

Quote:
The head football coach has final say over everything that transpires on the practice field. Everything. That’s why Ohio State’s Jim Tressel moved the Buckeyes’ practice inside on Tuesday when wind gusts made conditions unsafe.

“I don’t know if we’ll be inside or out,” Tressel told Ohio reporters 24 hours before the Notre Dame tragedy. “It looks a little nasty. I worry about our cameramen, their well-being up there 50 feet in the air.”

I don't know how you can say they don't recruit well. They recruit very, very well and do nothing with it.
Those aren't enrolled rankings are they?

Because that's actually one of the biggest reasons for the desparity between the recruiting ratings and on-field performance that you are talking about. The fact that many of the kids that contributed to signing day ratings didn't make it into school

Not to mention the ones that washed out. Probably happens everywhere, but just seems like a huge percentage of our 5 and high 4 star guys had problems.

Plus poor coaching as mentioned.

It isn't that big a mystery to most FSU fans.

My theory is that FSU was actually lagging in recruiting for a while. I think Ron Zook changed the dynamic in the state and they never really got on board. Other schools' fans were laughing at the stories of his insane recruiting (texting in the shower or whatever), but now that's the mentality of anyone that recruits successfully now.

I think the FSU staff kept its rankings high by closing a lot of kids that were questionable. Put it this way, if there are three elite receivers in Florida, they're going to get offers from everybody. But if one of them is more of a grades or character or work ethic risk, obviously the UF, Alabama, etc of the world are going to put them as the third priority on their board.

That's not to say they wouldn't take a chance on them in a heartbeat, but they'd put more effort into the talented kid without issues. I think FSU cleaned up on those kids in the tail end of the Bowden years. The low-hanging fruit if you will.

That's the only explanation for me how we had so many "top guys" never get on campus or see meaningful minutes.

You must be kidding...I've seen MHF go twice as long as that on half as interesting topics.

WOW. You see a kid up on a scissor lift with 50 miles an hour winds. The first thing that comes to mind is that thing is going over. If Kelly saw it and did nothing about it he should be 100% ashamed of himself as a human being. Don't have to be a doctor to know when to take an aspirin, don't have to be an engineer to know when something looks like it going to blow over.

yeah I guess that's why the University claimed responsibility today in a statement -.

It is not the responsibility of a football staff - that is paid to coach football. There are people in paid positions at the university that are responsible for these type of things and civil engineers that are paid to design things that won't fail.

You have no details or knowledge on the situation - you don't know how visible the lift was from where the coaches were standing - anyone one person could have told him to get off - he should've been the one to realize himself that he should have gotten off - he was definitely feeling the worst of the winds up that high and I'm sure he felt it swaying. Any one person nearby could be held responsible with that logic - because I guarantee Chip Kelley and his coaching staff weren't the only ones close to the guy.

You're insane if you think Kelley or anyone actually directly on the staff came up to the kid and told him to film practice. That goes back to administration and managers/etc - it's the university's fault - not the AD or football coaches.
