Chase Hounshell - Yahoo! Sports

Need the help across D'Line.

Tressel went to see him at school other day, not huge OSU fan though so he's open. Brother plays at UCF. Could end up at OL or DL. Should try getting into Ohio, especially class of '11 which is loaded. Dooley and staff should try and tap into it. Glenville is loaded with prospects as well.

ASSETS: He has a very good motor and is very strong - especially considering how lean his body structure (6-6, 245) is at this time.
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Will need to add at least 20 pounds and work on his lateral movement and flexibility. He is a bit stiff when changing directions.
WHAT WAS MOST IMPRESSIVE: Proved to be one of the quickest off the snap during one-on-ones. He often beat linemen wide before they could get back in their pass set.
CONCLUSION: He already has an Akron offer and a standing offer to play with his brother at UCF. Hounshell is keeping all options open, but would like to make a decision prior the start of his senior season. He did claim to have very strong interest in Oregon. Once spring recruiting is over, he should close in on double digit offers.

Hearing Ohio and Vandy offered. OSU offer is suppose to be soon. Wants to attend junior day on 27th.

Out of NOWHERE. Wasn't even on the recruiting board that GC keeps pretty good track of.

Jumped a lot of prospects in a very short time. Someone on UFs staff must have liked him a lot.

I'm thinking the exact same thing. They just reinitiated contact a few weeks back and right when he said he was going to visit you knew he was a lock if got a written offer. He said he's redshirting for sure.

OL coach/OC Steve Addazio offered him and accepted on the spot...he had good showing at a few camps this summer and I guess with most of the higher targets gone plus the talent down in the state this year most of the OL commits seem to be for adding depth. Kid had major offer from BC, Wisc, Iowa, NC State...they have put some good OL in the league over the years.

is he really up to 270 lbs like i've heard in other places?

He was at 265 for the Badger Camp.
Good. If he's already up that high we shouldn't need to focus on weight gain like we had to with Patchan, Nixon, Silberman, etc once he gets on campus just getting him ready in the event we sustain serious injury that would necessitate him not redshirting.

Looking over the Rival Top 100 only 8 OL including in the initial ranking...seems like a down year for OL.

Very hard worker. Works out twice a day in the offseason. Probably will be about 280 when you guys get him next summer.

Not possible Tennessee is the only team taking 3 stars right now :)
Posted via VolNation Mobile

Some of you guys clearly dont get it.

Florida, LSU and Alabama have always taken 3-stars. What they dont do is have the majority or even close to the majority of their recruiting classes centered around them. If you center your recruiting class around 3* type guys ONLY then you wont be able to compete in the SEC.

Tennessee was the same way back in the 90's.

There is a huge difference in taking 5-10 3*'s per recruiting class compared to taking 20-25 3*'s per recruiting class.

That is the difference between Alabama, Florida, LSU... and Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

What part of that can you guys not comprehend?

For me it's the part where you use numbers. Numbers are hard.

Hilarious, but the sad thing is a lot in this fan base really can't handle things like that.

A lot of people in the fan base also can't handle the fact that most top tiered 4 and 5 star guys aren't usually the ones that commit early... ESPECIALLY, if you are in a situation like UT is in with an unproven coach, questions concerning stability, etc.... You are right that we have to get 4 and 5 star guys, but if you are implying that we should be worried and/or that we are taking too many 3 stars this early on then you have an unrealistic picture of the current state of our program.... If we beat Oregon, get some good press from the media, and maybe upset an SEC team then we will be able to poach some of these 4 and 5 star guys from other schools like Alabama and Florida... Until then, it is what it is ----- we are a long ways away from the UT of the 90s.

Just to add more fuel to the "ESPN hates UT" fire: On the ESPNU college football recruiting commitment ticker, it reads "Florida lands highly recruited lineman Chase Hounshell of Ohio", below that it reads "Tennessee lands 3 star offensive lineman Kyler Kerbyson". Both of these players are 3 stars, now lets see who has the more impressive offer list. Hounshell: Florida, Mich State, Boston College, Ohio, W Virginia. Kerbyson: Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, UCLA, USC. So, which one is more highly recruited? ESPN thinks Hounshell.

Don't confuse our starry eyed fan base with rational thinking. Some won't get it.

You're right on the money about where UT needs to be to compete with UF, LSU, Bama, etc.

Kentucky's numbers, however, are even worse than you think. They average about 2.5 stars per player most years. They get about 10 3 stars, about 1-2 4 stars, and a bunch of 2 star guys...
