Dooley, recruiting, and the future on The Hill...

First off, I think we hired the best person we could at the time. The guy has connections in states that we need connections in, Georgia, Texas, and Louisiana. Now, is he a big splash hire, of course not. Honestly though, we saw how the last big splash hire worked out for us, not very well. So sit back and watch this guy work....

Now, as far as recruiting goes, Dooley has been around. He's helped score 2 #1 recruiting classes for LSU, and helped lay the foundation for a NC down there. Was it all him, of course not, but I would bet my bottom dollar that he had a lot to do with it. I also think that he will bring coaches with him that he trusts and who want to work hard. Dooley was the HC and AD of La. Tech, so if you think he's not going to work, then your full of it.

I also think that as far as prospects go, he's going after the best. You don't learn under Saban for years and not have that mentality. That being said, I'm sure he's going to be somewhat of a control freak. Is that bad?? It could be, but Saban is a control freak and we see how that's working out for Alabama. Prospects need to realize that we aren't going to sell assistant coaches to them anymore, it's going to be all about UT and what our school can do for their lives and football careers.

So, for all the fans, coaches, and prospects that read this site, and there are a few of you out there, get ready for hard work and determination. This guy is going to fire you up and get you motivated. He's a no nonsense, no BS kinda guy, and he won't jerk you around to make you believe something that he won't do in the future. I think the program is in better hands, and if your not sure, give this guy 3 years and I would bet we challenge FL for the East, if not win it. I'm excited about this hire and about the future. You once believed in a man that left you hanging, now believe in the man that will be here for a long time and help bring the prestige back to Rocky Top.

I'll start worrying about His recruiting for the 2011 class...

I wont judge him based on whatever players he hangs on to or loses in this class

Add class, character, and brains to that list.

yes indeedy!

instead of trying to build the USC of the South or some nonsense, we are going back to being the Tennessee Volunteers again. That worked out pretty good for most of the last 100 years...."yellow shirts" and all

I completely agree with the OP...I too am excited about CDD so much so that I decided it was a good time to start sharing my opinion with the rest of volnation. He gave very impressive answers last night. The fact that he will embrace the UT traditions will go a long way with fans embracing him. I think he is respectful and UT deserves a coach with some class. The rest will of course depend on the performance of the team. Best of luck to him.

I agree with all points Eric.

He'll be fine here. He has learned from the best and at least has some HC experience. I'll be interested to see if he can salvage this recruiting class.

Too depressed about it to change it so soon. When I'm ready, I will.
