A.) I dont think that the "coattails of Monte" have anything to do with the tremendous amount of recruiting success we had last year (and are having so far this year).

B.) Anybody that has watched our games knows that our offense has made more strides since the beginning of the year than our defense. Lane has proven, to those who are actually paying attention, that he is certainly a very good coach and is definitely not just riding on anybody's coattails.

C.) You want to talk about our expectations? I dont how any of that falls on our current staff. We like where are program is at right now because of where it was left at by our previous coaching staff. We are excited right now, even though we are 4-4, because of the direction of our program. You can throw that 4-4 around all you want, but if you are looking at the big picture it doesnt mean much. We are not the same team that lost to UCLA/Auburn. If you said regardless of record, which teams are the best in the country RIGHT NOW you would not find many informed, unbiased football minds that would leave UT out of the Top 20. And coming off last season, with the thin amount of talent currently on the rost, that is an accomplishment.

First of all Lane Kiffin with arguably less talent and a harder schedule is absolutely smoking the first season of Shannon at Miami.

Second of all Shannon still is sucking year 3.

Third of all, there is no need to try to look up RPI or whatever, but if you think TN has a schedule next year that looks anything comparable to the schedule Shannon had year two you are a dolt who knows nothing about football. I know that UF plays sisters of the poor OOC plus an FSU team that has not been good since before I finished 7 years of post H.S. education, but try to imagine playing a top 10 team out of conference, and then try to imagine a season in which you had to face the best in the SEC West before the SEC championship.

We understand, there will be no one next year to play the Tebow position and you know that the downward spiral of Meyer is about to begin. No you cannot have Monte when Charlie leaves, yes our cocky coach will bring in the players to back up his bravado and yes Mike Golic was right and Brandon Spikes is a disgusting coward for trying to blind a guy who is lying in a pile.

I predicted that in Kiffin's first year he would go 8-4. The part that we all wanted but thought would be asking too much is no blowouts. Your pathetic team playing at home against a bunch of walk ons because Lane could not get his players yet beat us by a whopping 10 points. Alabama would have lost to us at home if we had a decent kicker.

The UCLA game was awful but we all knew that we were left without a QB. It was never more painfully obvious than in a 3 picks on consecutive possessions game. The fact that Kiffin stuck by him and created a guy who looks pretty good and who will lead us to lots of victories to end the season is going to speak volumes to recruits.

We will beat you on the field soon, but we are already beating you for buzz and being hot on the trail. That is coming from a team that is 4-4...Imagine what it will be like when we start winning all of the time.

8-4 next season wouldn't be terrible with a new QB and very young, very inexperienced offensive line; the highlights of our 2010 schedule:

Oregon
florida
at LSU
at Georgia
Alabama
South Carolina
Ole Miss

Sooner or later you'll have to stop pretending that Lane can't coach. The evidence is rapidly mounting to the contrary.... the difference he's made in just 1 year, almost to the day, is staggering. And thats with maybe top ~30 talent.

that's 7 so far in one class. I expect Williams to switch to Ole Miss, but his spot could very well be replaced by Christian Jones.

I think Jeff Luc is ours to lose and by multiple reports, Hialeah teammates Corey Lemonier and Calvin Smith are ours to lose as well.

There continue to be reports that Gore could be our RB if we miss out on Dyer. I don't think Tennessee swings Dunkley in the end.

Grades are a concern for a couple of these players as well, but Tennessee is still recruiting some WR's from Florida who could replace a lost player.

With 7 now, considering grades and de-commitments, Tennessee will probably finish with 9-10 Florida players in this class.

It's amazing how many good players come out of FL and Ga. Those states seem to be a gold mine of talent.

Takes time to build a program. Most coaches struggle their first couple years. Saban did, Tom Osbourne did, Pete Carrol did (that's pretty good company). Myer is an exception but he did not rebuild a program at Florida. As for the 8-4. With that schedule I would be not be disappointed to go 8-4. Not with all the new guys were going to have next year. I'm a vols fan but you have to be realistic about where your program is at the moment. Now if we are 4-4 in 2011 at this time then you will have an argument.
