Losing the best player in your state

I remember the sick feeling several times as guys like Patrick Turner and Golden Tate spurned their home state.

I was reminded as I watched the Cobbs video how much we gained over the years by taking awesome players from states where the home school had lots of talent but could not keep the guy.

Cobbs did not go to OU.
Neither did Meachem or G. Jones.

South Carolina may be the greatest state to feed us,
Georgia gave us C Coleman and Jamal Lewis the same year and Raynoch Thompson and Peyton Manning are from LA.

I think we should never complain if we "lose" the best player in our state. Texas gets Texas boys, but most of us are just rooting for teams that play excellent players from around the country.

When Eric Berry said that we look like an NFL team it gave me a big smile. He is right that NFL teams are geographically diverse, and he is right that TN has to recruit like that to succeed. Our coaches are also from lots of different places.

Go Vols!

The great thing about this staff is now we can keep the best in state (J. Smith) and go get the best from other states (OK-D.Cobbs), (SC-if not for Lattimore, then C.Miller & B.Willis)

Hope is is enjoying ridin the pine. He could have been
playing this year. But I guess some kids would rather watch from the sideline until the get the nerve to actually go out on the field in the SEC.
