If we sign 28 players, I expect us to very close to a top 5 class. Not many schools are going to be able to sign more than 23 or 24 players (UGA, UF, etc.). We may pass some schools just because of our sheer numbers. I also expect us to be signing many top tier players from here on out. Just look at the guys we are hard after: Dyer, Riley, Ego, Cobbs, Bray, Stone, Robinson, Hampton, Luc, Owens, Shirley, Lemonier, Joyner, Riggs, Clements, etc. We will not be signing many more "sleepers," if any. They will be big name, high rated guys. Not to mention, Fulton and Taylor will most likely move up to 4stars, maybe even Broussard...

With the closing power that this staff has already shown, I expect the Vols to finish at least with a 5-8 ranked class...

I completely Agree!

I completely agree. I believe our staff is going to finish really strong in 2010. One thing that I will say that will be a definite factor is how well we play this year. We do not have to have a 9 win season, but if we play hard and beat the teams we are suppose to beat and come out with 7-8 wins with a nice bowl appearance, that is all we can ask for realistically this year. People tend to forget that Alabama went 6-6 with a loss to ULM (at home) and still was able to clinch a number one recruiting class the following year. With the talent that this coaching staff has, I will be happy if they tie down top 10 recruiting classes from here on out. They do not have to be number one but they need to at least be competitive with LSU, Florida, and Alabama. On that note... Go Vols! Kick some HillTopper Butt!

Vader has an excellent thread he started which also discusses "surprises"

Who would be taking a Nu'Keese from or a Janzen Jackson this year?

It would be Alabama and Florida most likely.

A 3 loss season for Alabama or Florida would be viewed as a disaster while it would be an incredible triumph for us. This season could play out a lot of ways. At the end of the year our secondary will be viewed as better than Florida's and our opportunity for early playing time will look better to OL than anywhere, and better to lots of top 4 and 5 * players as well.

We have the best recruiting staff in the country. Why are we acting satisfied with talk of a top 10 class? It may be impossible to catch Texas, but after an 8 win season we will be top 5 and after a 9 win season we could be top 3-4.

TJ Leifhet
on OL
One RB either Dyer, Lattimore or Seastrunk
One more WR either Cobbs or Prater
Bray at QB
Ego Ferguson or Ronald Powell at DE
George Uko at DT
Josh Shirley (I think likely) or Luc (I think possible but unlikely)
Dietrich Riley at safety.

If our last 10 players include these guys are we a number 1 class?
Crazy!

Look now at where we are:
More likely to end with James or Cullen than we were at that time, but still right in the top 2 for D Robinson and James Stone.

At RB Dyer is still very possible, and Lattimore is more likely than before although all the cocks say he is headed there still without his Byrnes teammates.

We got Cobbs, we still have a shot at Stills which means we would move over a 4 star WR to another position, probably Meline.

We got Bray, and he will enroll early along with 7-8 other guys who will all be ready to contribute in the fall.

Ferguson, Powell and Uko. We are still in it for Ferguson, Powell is probably between USC and UF and we better pray it is USC, and Uko may well end up at USC as well. As crazy as it is to say, our DT gets and DE gets mean no tears will be shed...

Shirley, Luc and Riley are all still very possible.

This staff has to be considered the finest recruiters in the country and even UF and Bammer fans must realize that we are in their league (although I would not expect them to say above it) and are going to be top 5 classes every year as long as they stay in place.

remember we have guys that will prolly move up a star. I think one of the DL we got yesterday will be one. I also fully expect to move to a 4 star. Micheal Taylor prolly will too. We will rise more. Top 5 IMO.

I found this online. Can anyone elaborate on how many recruits we can sign? According to this, early enrollees can be counted towards last years class which could free up a few more schollys.

NCAA recruiting regulations limit college football teams to signing 25 players to football scholarships each year, with certain exceptions. A team can not sign more than 25 players to scholarships in a given year if it has used the full 25 in the previous year. If the team used fewer than 25 scholarships the previous year, the additional players above 25 for the new season must enroll in December of the year before the football season in which they intend to play. Regardless of how many players a college signs, they must remain below the maximum permitted number of scholarships. Over-signing is done to prepare for the possibility that some players who were offered scholarships fail to qualify academically, or to make up for previous years where the school could not sign their full allotment.

we are now ranked #4 on rivals, i think the staff will keep all of our current commits, and continue to recruit them, and focus more on the top players they want instead of multiple players at the positions, and go hard at Luc, Riley, and others they are really high on

I agree with this. Willis and Miller could both move up to 5*s. Irvin could and should move up to a 5* (dude is a beast). Maybe 1 or 2 of the 3* guys move up to a 4*.

I agree with pretty much all of this. At OL I definitely think we get Cullen and James, and still have a good shot at landing one of Robinson and Stone after that. DL I disagree. I think the only guy left we have a realistic shot at is Quarles, but the staff wouldn't decline a commitment from any one of those guys, and we still look be be getting an official from Powell.

The two last comments I agree completely on. There is a very good chance we land one of Shirley, Luc, and Christian Jones, who a lot of people aren't talking about and is very heavily considering UT. Riley is all but a Tennessee lock.

Doesn't look like it unfortunately. I still think he will take an official here but last time I talked to him he was in the "clearing up rumors" mood and still said he loves Miami and is still solidly committed there. There only other team he said that is making a strong push is FIU, but the staff hasn't given up completely.

Thanks.

Quarles or any other DL would just be icing on the cake.

I'm predicting we end up 3rd on Rivals...

Here's my logic:

I think we end up with two 5*'s (Miller..who get's bumped and Dyer), eightteen 4*'s and eight 3*'s...that will be about 2600 points by Rivals scoring...

I checked the last 6 years and 2600 points was 2nd twice, 3rd twice and 4th twice...which averages out to a 3rd place finish for us...
