for the kids, not the parents, but for the kids (at least 80% of them), the # 1 criteria they consider is "social environment". They want to see on visits what that is like and that is a huge factor in their selections.
Other important aspects are:
How they relate to the players on a visit. Can they get along with them? Do they feel put down?? Very important aspect.
Distance from home. Not just from parents, but all their multitude of friends that they leave behind. This reason is why you see many that take ships away from home, end up going back closer to home..
These are a few things that are much more important to a large majority of kids than the on the field opportunities. The vast majority understand that they are not getting to the league so they are looking for those things outside football to make their college time more enjoyable.
