'10 CA QB Tyler Shreve

Pro-style quarterback
Redlands (CA) East Valley

Ht: 6-foot-4
Wt: 210 lbs
Class: 2010 (High School)

http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com...1&pr_key=85294

"Tyler Shreve (6-4, 215, 4.7) from Redlands (Calif.) Redlands East Valley (REV) embodies all of those qualities and that is why he is one of the best quarterbacks from the state of California for the class of 2010."

"In Shreve's first game of the 2008 season he had a one-plus degree separation on his throwing shoulder, yet he never missed a snap all season. That alone would prove the kind of grit that Shreve brings the table, but that wasn't the only injury he suffered and that's what makes his junior season performance even more impressive."

"Every school in the nation knows about Tyler," REV coach Kurt Bruich said. "Dan Mullen, the new coach of Mississippi State told me he's going to recruit him. Even Tennessee is showing interest. Actually almost the whole SEC are showing recruiting interest in Tyler."

Shreve earned all-CIF and all-league honors after throwing for 1,516 yards and 12 touchdowns against only two picks. Bad wheels and all, Shreve was also a threat rushing the football as he rushed for 534 yards and added 10 touchdowns on the ground.

The word is Shreve will be on the UCLA campus this weekend for a tour and the Washington State basketball game.

Think maybe its the offense that terrible....Coach Rod trying to play a pro-style qb in the spread because he has no other options. Some of the posters seem to think he has talent along with good decision making abilities. More than we had last year.

Nick Montana had the most impressive performance of all the quarterbacks in attendance, as he grabbed the headline, but others had solid showings as well.

Perhaps one of the more publicized quarterbacks heading into next season is Redlands East Valleys Tyler Shreve. who proved he is worth every bit of the hype. He stands tall in the pocket, has a powerful throwing arm, and is a playmaker with his feet.

Shreve is a guy that has a chance to be very, very good at the next level. He possesses ideal measurables, good overall arm strength and the athleticism you look for in the position. He isn't a dual-threat, but he will surprise you with his ability to create, buy time and keep the play alive and is a good enough runner to be effective on the zone-read. He has a muscular, thick, wiry build and excellent frame for development. Possesses the height to see the field and the arm strength when his feet are set to make all the necessary throws both vertically and outside of the numbers. He is very consistent with his footwork, mechanics and release. Shows ball handling skills and is a balanced passer from within the pocket. Shows presence and a calm demeanor, but also plays with competitive fire and moxie. Stands tall and strong in the pocket and can fire the ball outside the numbers and down the seam with authority. Throws well on the move outside of the pocket, squares shoulders and follows through with power and attacks the target when throwing on the roll. Is a tough, physical runner that is not afraid to lower his shoulder to fight for extra yards. Has deceptive quickness and adequate speed for a pocket passer. He isn't going to jab and juke when on the move or create fits for defenses with his legs, but he does require them to respect his ability to get out of trouble and break the pocket. Shreve displays a lot of qualities coaches want, but he can also be very raw and mechanical in his methods. Isn't always a smooth and fluid passer with his motion and delivery. He is consistent, but a bit tense in the upper body and robotic similar to former Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn. Possesses good arm strength, but not elite and his deep ball will tail off a bit the further he tries to push the ball downfield. You can see he will wind up somewhat when he needs to get some mustard behind the ball. Overall, Shreve will be considered one of the top QB's in the 2010 class when it is all said and done. He may be a late bloomer and must continue to sharpen his overall throwing mechanics, but he has upside and quality physical tools to work with.

If we don't land Scroggins or Rettig, I don't think Shreve is a bad option. He obviously has the size CLK covets in his QBs and he looks like a good decision maker.

Anyone hearing anything about this guy? He lists us as one of his schools of interest--for whatever that means. Has the staff shown any interest in him?

I think he should be our next option. I think he has a lot of potential. I think we should offer him and see what happens. I believe he is just as good as Bray from what I've seen.

Looks like a good prospect. He has a pretty good arm and seems to be mobile. A tough guy also, which I like at the QB position.
