Of course he never got here, but he is still a player that Pearl recruited that clearly was never going to play Division 1 ball.
thats like going from a mechanic to the CEO of a Fortune 500 company in 2 years. There's a little more to it than that.

Yeah, but you're giving me an example from Ramar Smith's perspective. I'll give you the example of Bruce Pearl hiring a clerk to be a stock broker. Ramar Smith did not work out because Pearl made a judgment call that backfired.

But Bruce doesn't need/use an absolute point guard to run his scheme.

Passley

was a 2-guard out of high school and it was a great thing that we pulled his offer (see my handle)... Ramar was a 2-guard who we had to switch to PG (and had to give a scholly to) because we couldn't land a top notch one in the 2006 class. Marques Johnson was going to play wing from the get-go but he transferred because he thought Pearl was wrong and that he deserved a shot at PG. You clearly don't have your facts straight. Pearl has done nothing to disapprove his abilities in evaluating PGs and I believe he will prove you wrong when you see Bobby Maze and Daniel West hit the floor (probably be a year or two before he will be a big contributor).

I could also show you the list of PGs that he has offered and I guarantee a lot of them are top notch PGs. We just haven't been able to land one of these guys. I think Maze will start a new trend and I think UT is a heavy favorite for Selby as well. I really don't understand the Craft offer but I am assuming he is just an emergency plan that Pearl feels that he will get better offers and be able to run his system if one of the big guys slips through.

mm, I did not think that Johnson was recruited as a wing. Thanks for pointing that out Still though, I'm not willing to assume that every decision Pearl makes when it comes to the point guard position has been the right one.

No coaches are perfect so you aren't going out on too big of a limb in saying he has probably made a couple of errors when recruiting PGs. I'll give an example, Terrance Oglsby (sp?) should have gotten a Tennessee offer. He had an amazing shot and could run the PG position fairly well but Pearl missed out on him and I guarantee he is somewhat regretting it. It happens from time to time but to completely discredit and rag on Pearl about PG recruiting is ignorant. He is hot on the trail to land a huge PG in his 5th year at UT and hasn't really had much to work with so far. I really do think the PG position will be more like the 05-06 season this year. I think Maze is coming in with the right attitude and should be able to hold down the position. Pearl has "missed" out with one guy and that is debatable (freshman all-sec 1st year) so people are jumping the gun a little bit by doubting Pearl's ability to produce a quality PG.
