While Marlon Brown is a very athletic WR, a five star ranking and top 20 national ranking is too much. I know he got a lot of press after he had 300 yards receiving in one game.
I haven't seen one of his football games in person, so obviously I don't know as much as the experts, but having seen him play basketball, his speed and quickness are not what you would expect from a five star WR.
His size, strength, and great hands will help him become a good player, but like a few people have already said, he is by no means an immediate impact type of player.
Unfortunately, a number of fans will call him a bust after his redshirt freshman season when he doesn't produce Robert Meachem like numbers. But give him a few years, then he will begin to match his ranking.
Also, from my perspective, Marlon Brown is not going to be a big factor on the basketball court. His 30 points in the state championship came on all lay-ups and free throws, not fancy drives and perimeter or even mid-range shots.
Also, while the people who rank the prospects are obviously smarter than me, I don't see how someone like Austin Long (who I go to school with) is so highly ranked and someone like JerQuari Schofield is not ranked. Long has good size and decent strength, but I don't see him making an impact at Georgia until his redshirt sophomore or redshirt junior season.

great insight, LLV90.
UGA would kill for a WR like this though. he fits into their WR scheme greatly. Just look at Fred Gibson, terrible at everything except being 6'4 with decent hands.

Brown will be a solid red zone threat because of his size and strength. We have been weak in the red zone the last few years because of our inability to run block. If all he can do is help us in this area then he is worth his scholarship and the 5 star ranking.

Robert Meachem was a hoss and a big playmaker for our team. Sure the CAL game was his standout but that season had quite a few big plays from him. If we added a Meachem to this years team we would be quite a force to be reconded with. While our WRs are good, I dont know yet if anyone can produce like him! I hope someone steps it up! GO VOLS !!!!!

false in a true year-by-year breakdown.... but true in the sense that Meachem put up one year of awesome, "Meachem-like" numbers.

It was very strangely worded.

No, I hear you. Any year of Meachem's numbers were obviously Robert Meachem numbers. However, there was only one year where we really cared about the numbers he was posting...

You guys remember the hauses' from FL & AK last year?AK's WR-Monk & FL's TE or WR...the beast the the guns: they really hurt us, and they were not really fast. They were tough, tall, ran their routes, had good hands & they hurt us in the red zone. I'll take Mar-lon. Especially if he gets some cool lookin guns!

Could not agree with you more on this. We desperately need a threat in the red zone. If this kid could learn to use his size and strength in our running game, man that would be great. Hope like heck this kid picks us.
