That's significantly faster than EA. Sounds pretty good if he is a clone of Ainge with Crompton-like mobility.

I like his enthusiasm

"Petty said his plan is to redshirt as a freshman at Tennessee and to compete from there.

"I believe I will redshirt and that doesn't bother me," Petty said. "I know I have a lot to learn and plenty of room to grow so redshirting would be best for me. I am excited to get there. I wish I could move today and start. I grew up a huge fan of the SEC and to get to play in that conference at Tennessee is a dream come true.""

Ainge ran a 4.6 in HS.

apparently he ran the Wing-T the first two years of high school before transferring to Texas

what a change..

from the WingT to a full-time shotgun spread offense

did cutcliff put so much in his head it dropped him down to a 5.6 40 in college? ainge couldnt run a 4.6 if he had a case of the blind screaming apaches attacking his bowels.

Too bad he didn't play for UT in high school, then. I'm really doubting the accuracy of him being clocked at 4.6 anyway.

Yet another example of why Rivals' 40 times are worthless. Half of them are self-reported by the prospect or his HS coach.

Ainge use to be pretty fast. He wasn't exactly slow when he was a Freshman.

He wasn't terribly slow but he was nowhere close to 4.6 Ainge's long stride is good for basketball and may add to his top end speed but is terrible for evading defenders. Ainge looked like he was moving in slow motion except when he was throwing the ball away. I'm an EA fan and I think he will have a solid NFL career but he's about as mobile as Peyton was.

Here is ESPN's evaluation of Petty:

"Petty is a prospect that may begin to garner more interest as his senior campaign gets under way. He possesses very good size and a strong arm and would be considered a true pocket passer at this point. Works out of the spread and is in the shotgun all the time which does not give us the opportunity to really see his footwork and ability to plant and deliver the ball on time. He shows very good balance and set up off the one-step drop, feet are quick and he generally has a very good idea of where he wants to go with the ball. Ball comes out quickly, he shows very zip and the ability to fit the ball into some tight spots in the short and intermediate passing game. He does not wow you with his arm strength, but he can make throws vertically and outside of the numbers, he just doesn't get many opportunities to do so. This is a Texas Tech-like scheme, dink and dunk for the most part. Throws very well on the move to both sides and is an accurate, technically sound passer with his feet underneath him on a consistent basis. Petty's delivery can be a bit mechanical and over-the-top and gives the appearance that he's pushing the ball a bit. Would like to see him work from under center some in the dropback passing game. Doesn't show much power downfield or have many chances, is more of a timing and rhythm thrower to a particular spot. Overall, Petty is a solid performer that has something about him that you like. He is tough and performs with a high production level. Good prospect."

Petty may be a sleeper and have a huge senior season..he is certainly poised and has good stuff per his vids. Throws well on the run it appears.
Aaron Murray is having second thoughts. He committed before Zach Mettenberger was even rated by scout or rivals. Now that Mettenberger is a 4 star I've heard Murray might decommit and look at his other options.

From Barton Simmons, a Rivals analyst:

"FWIW Petty really stood out at the Fort Worth Elite 11 as one of the best quarterbacks there. He's a big thick kid with a strong arm. I'm really surprised more big offers haven't come his way but regardless I think this is a really good pickup by Tennessee based on his camp performance.
