Bassman and Johnny, there is one thing to keep in mind with Hopson, and particularly his mother: they really don't think they need someone to help him get to the next level, and I don't think they are worried at all about competition for playing time from another recruit. They think it is a done deal that Scotty will star in college and then move on to the NBA regardless of where he goes. That may be arrogant or naive or stupid or prescient--I really don't know--but it eliminates the concern of having to have a coach develop him or competing for playing time from consideration in the recruiting process.

As for UT being the leader, all I know is that they are in serious consideration. Since failing to sign with MSU, I've had about 3 conversations with Scotty's coach. The only schools he has mentioned have been Kentucky (negatively) and UT (positively.) He knows I am a Tennessee supporter, and I'm sure that plays into the conversation, and he isn't the one ultimately making the decision, but it does tell me that we are at least in the pack at the front of the race.

I don't know why he would even consider UK after that atrocious performance they had last night.

If UK ends up landing Hopson, with their crap year there having, and our outstanding year.. then there is a problem.. a big problem..

Kentucky is never out of the picture for an instate prospect. Imagine a star QB in Nashville who had committed to MSU and then reopened his commitment. Tennessee would and should be a consideration, for the in-state recognition, the history as a national program, and the number of players put into the pros. Down year or not, Kentucky has an even greater pull on players in this state. They may not have liked the recruiting process up to this point or the way the current season is going, but there is still a tremendous allure to suiting up for the blue.

According to reports, Gillespie finally made a call to Scotty's mom last night. So it appears UK is in it for the long run. It would not surprise me for UT and UK to be battling it in end.

Also, Scotty was supposed to come in for last night's game against Arkansas. However, contrary to some reports that the weather was the problem, Scotty is sick with the flu.

Its gonna be a long race to the end.

Sounds like he'd fit in pretty well with UT's team right now.

Read over the last three words of my sentence. Never once did I say they wouldn't get involved at some point.
