As for the ongoing in-state battles, LSU simply isn't going away in-state. In fact, there are some who believe that LSU has emerged as a far greater threat, at least this year, in-state than Ole Miss overall. The Tigers and Vols are battling for Ugo Amadi, Dylan Jackson, Kyle Phillips and Justin Martin, who has told some folks he grew up as an LSU fan in the Atlanta area. Additionally, it's quickly emerging as an LSU-UT battle for 2016 standout JoeJuan Williams of Nashville's Father Ryan.

What the heck is goin on? It looks like most kids would want to represent their home. Our best always seem to want to Volunteer to go somewhere else. I guess they are just being true to our state traditions...

Gotta understand that kids that are in high school literally grew up in a climate where it is has been unpopular to be a fan of the Vols. They grew up hearing "UT sucks" and seeing the results to prove it and living in a social media world makes it even worse..

Butch and Co are gonna have to fight their hardest to turn these kids to UT over the next few years over any other SEC teams because it is really hard to shake that tainted image of UT that kids have had ingrained in them since they grew up.

A lot is being made of LSU trying to make a move on TN recruits, but I think many are missing a bigger factor going on here. Butch and staff have proven to be ace recruiters, but have also shown a tendency to play things safe. We could have a full class at this point and just put things on cruise control and work to hold on to our guys until signing day. This is how it kind of played out last year and then we had some late additions sort of fall into our laps.

There appears to be a slightly different strategy this year. They are showing to be quite the gamblers this year and letting some current commits part ways and going for broke on a few guys. If things don't work out we will still have a very solid class. This is a risky move on Butch's part, but if a few pieces fall into place this class could be ridiculous. How do you guys feel about the way they are handling the final stretch? One thing is for sure, it won't be boring the next 6 weeks.

Where were you last year when we landed 5 of the top 6 in state guys? Its not like we arent pulling some of the best from other states. We took the best wr and a top 2 player outta georgia (williams) the best player in north carolina (tuttle) and the best player in cali as well (mckenzie). We will be fine. Not every kids parents grew up fans of their homestate so at that point its just like an out of state kid. Its even harder when theyre from memphis and UT is the home state school only by technicality because theres several sec schools closer by.

Sign of the times. You know...the grass is always greener and the lure of experiencing something different than what you're used to.
Plus LSU is a crazy place man. :devilsmoke:

LSU typically 60-75% of their recruits come from La. this year 9 of 15 are from La. The remaining 7-12 are usually from other states and is pretty spread out but Texas is maybe a higher percentage as of late.

Tennessee and LSU actually have very few run-ins on recruits at least with players from Tennessee. Maclin is really the only one LSU has gotten in recent memory, LSU did try hard to get Jacques Smith.

With the population growth in TN over the last decade, and expected to continue, a lot of these HS kids didn't grow up in TN and only recently moved here, so neither their parents nor them grew up as UT fans.

Herron from Memphis. We really wanted him. Also J.C. Copeland was a long-time UT commit before flipping to LSU.

Wasn't there a linemen from Riverdale High in Murfressboro named Hurst, that went to LSU? It seemed like a case where Fulmer slow played him.

TN football posted a collective team gpa of 2.75 this semester- the highest ever in the history of the program.

While wins and losses are what any coach are ultimately judged on, it's great to see Butch succeeding in all the small, often overlooked facets. It's the small things that will result in the successful rebuilding of this program.

How are LSU kids doing academically?

crazy that a kid would want to get away and go to a different state for college and be an independent individual.

I forgot about Herron, my bad, J.C. was from Georgia, but yes, LSU got him late. Generally, LSU doesn't go after many TN. kids.
