Anyone have any insight as to where the coaches are traveling to recruit during the bye week? Would be interested to see who they are prioritizing to get to see as playoff time is mounting for most of the recruits.

I read an article (maybe on VQ?) that said Butch would be travelling to Murfreesboro to see Jauan Jennings run toward the playoffs and also Kyle Phillips.

Heard they are going to see Van Jefferson on Friday night and then somewhere Saturday and Sunday I assume. Stories will emerge.

KNOXVILLE*— With the Vols on a bye week this weekend,*Tennessee*coach*Butch Jones*and his staff will focus heavily on recruiting.

For Jones, that will include a trip to Nashville.

He's expected to visit Hillsboro, where senior defensive end Kyle Phillips is a Tennessee target and all-purpose back Vincent Perry committed to the Vols last month.

Phillips has been offered by nearly every SEC school.

Jones is also expected to be at Blackman, where quarterback*Jauan Jennings*has committed to the Vols.

Jones hasn't shied away from emphasizing how important the Nashville area is to his program recently. Last month, billboards began*popping up*in the Midstate area showcasing eight current Tennessee freshmen who call that area home.

"The Midstate area is a very strong recruiting base for us," Jones said at the time. "The entire state of Tennessee is a very strong recruiting base for us. You look at the individuals, particularly this past year's recruiting class, from the Midstate area and they're all making an impact on our football team."

The head man is expected to team up with Music City area recruiter and linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen in stopping by a number of schools, including Brentwood Academy (Ryan Johnson, Bryce Mathews), LaVergne (Maleik Gray), Oakland (Jack Jones, Kyle Oliver, JaCoby Stevens), Overton (Ugo Amadi), Ravenwood (Van Jefferson) and Smyrna (Ikenna Okeke). The final stops figure to be at game sights at Blackman (Jauan Jennings) and Hillsboro (Vincent Perry, Kyle Phillips).

Defensive line coach Steve Stripling will log the greatest number of sky miles this weekend, flying out to the Golden State to check in on Scout five-star commit and defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie at Clayton Valley High. Stripling also is expected at De La Salle High in Concord to see four-star junior tackle Boss Tagaloa, who ranks 12th nationally at his position.

Offensive line coach Don Mahoney’s major road trip that was mentioned in the previous volume was delayed until this weekend. Figure the assistant to see a large number of targets, including four-star offensive guard Matthew Burrell, four-star offensive tackle Isaiah Prince, four-star defensive tackle Tim Settle, No. 3-rated junior offensive tackle Richard Merritt and four-star junior tackle Jauan Williams (teammate of Merritt).

As posted in last week’s volume of Gate 21, four-star junior Mecole Hardman figures to get a visit from a Tennessee assistant coach this weekend. However, that assistant looks to be recruiting coordinator Zach Azzanni.

Running backs coach Robert Gillespie is to hit up one of his prime regions in Louisiana. Three-star running back Kendall Bussey (Nebaska commit) at Newman School, three-star safety Hunter Dale at John Curtis Christian, four-star junior defensive tackle Glen Logan at Destrehan High and four-star junior receiver Mykel Jones at Patterson High are some of the prime Vols targets on the Bayou.
