Linebacker Cameron Smith is doing what few players in his position do. Smith, a four-star linebacker rated among the best in the nation, is going out of his way to improve upon a conceived weakness. Smith traveled 450 miles south to join team Body by Tra in the Passing Down Regional 7-on-7 tournament. "Every athlete needs to get better at something," said Smith. "Hopefully colleges see that I want to be a three down linebacker. I don't want to come off the field, so I'm here to get better at what I think I can improve at."
Smith will participate in two other passing tournaments this spring. From a recruiting standpoint, he continues to be pursued by most of the Pac-12, although the newest school of interest courting him is from the SEC.
"Tennessee has been coming after me pretty hard," said Smith. "I've been talking to their staff and they have some good things to offer. It's exciting to get a look from the SEC. "Other than that, I'm talking a visit to Oregon pretty soon. Hopefully I'll also have The Opening and Rivals Five Star to look forward to."
"I want to narrow it to seven schools during the summer and then take my five official visits starting September," said Smith. "I already know USC and UCLA will be in my top two, so it's just of matter of sorting out my last three for official visits. "I'll go from there and then commit right after my last official visit."
