Frazier commits to Vols
By Dave Hooker, hookerd@knews.com
November 7, 2006

Savion Frazier has committed to Tennessee.

The tailback/linebacker from Woodbridge, Va. told UT’s coaches of his decision this weekend, according to his high school coach Joe Mangano.

"He’s the real deal in every possible way," Mangano said. "I would say that he is by far the best high school football player I’ve ever been associated with. He’s got greatness written all over him."

Mangano said the 6-foot-1, 208-pound Frazier has a 3.0 grade point average, is a two-year captain and holds every weight room record at Gar-Field High School.

Mangano said Frazier has also run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds and posted the seventh best Sparq rating in Virginia during a spring football combine. The Sparq system is designed to test speed and quickness.

"He brings a lot of things to the table that are going to be great for Tennessee," Mangano said.

On the field, Frazier has been red hot recently. He just completed his third 200-yard rushing effort of the season. He has 1,110 yards on 144 carries with 14 touchdowns. He also has two sacks, two interceptions and a punt return for a touchdown this season.

Mangano said the best is yet to come.

"He’s got that desire," he said. "He’s going to excel in college.

UT is recruiting Frazier as an outside linebacker and was the first to offer him a scholarship when it did so last spring. Frazier also has offers from Virginia Tech, Duke, Marshall and Louisville.

The Herd have pulled in thier shares of studs over the years. Pennington and Moss come to mind pretty quick.

Pennington was not highly touted and Moss went to FSU and got in trouble and was forced to go to Marshall, much like Lee Smith this year.

Moss fell into Marshall's lap. He went to FSU, got into trouble, and no one else in Division 1-A would take him.

Also, wouldn't it be nice to have a recruiting sub-forum that already has a thread about this.

He's new, well give him a pass this time. Plus these threads make the mods earn thier VN parking space.

Here we go with the same 'ol same 'ol. That song and dance is getting quite tiresome. How about Virginia Tech and #3 Louisville? You failed to mention them. He is a 4-star on scout. He is an amazing athlete. The rivals story has his weight room numbers and 40 time and he is a top shelf athlete, add to that he is smart and you have some great potential.

But, yeah you are right, since education was important to him and he took a look at Duke he likely sucks.

2, most likely that he has gotten very little exposure to the Rivals staff.

at least we got him over two very good programs in va. tech and louisville.

let's not belittle the guy just because he was considering duke.....maybe he was considering them for academic reasons.
