In Sal I Trust

People need to realize that Sal coached up and was surrounded by top notch players at Bama day in and day out. The guy at this point in his career can probably tell within 30 seconds of watching a player if the guy is a stud with NFL potential.

On the flip side, Wilcox was surrounded by average talent on the BS teams and was not well equiped to judge what talent level there needed to be in the SEC. It wasn't really his fault but he is not, nor will be in the future it appears, an SEC coach.

The fact that Sal has been not only in the SEC for many many years but knows what level it takes to win big sets him apart from Wilcox. He just knows what to look for.

This little distinction will set us apart very quickly from the old regime and when Sal offers a kid (no matter what the star level is) people better realize the guy just offered is a baller.

Trust in Sal. All he has done is win.

He has worked for some good coaches and elite talent. John Fox is a helluva a mentor on the defensive side of the ball.

This. I think Wilcox's schemes will work very well in other leagues. Bend don't break will only produce average in the SEC. Sal is off to a great start IMO. Let's see how it translates to the field this fall.

Wilcox is a good coach, around FB his whole life, daddy was a 49er, and he's much younger than Sal. talent level was woeful during his time here.

Listening to Sal talk and his enthusiam, I think players will love playing for him. I think that will show on the field. His NFL background and experience at Bama, I don't believe you will see some of the same mistakes made by the defense as last year or at least it will not be tolerated like it was last year. I really look for our secondary to be in better positions and not so many blown coverages. I think our LBs (if the DL plays assignment football) will make some huge plays this year. Exciting to think about.

Looking at Lance Thompson's tenure here, while I believe Sal can get it done, he's yet to land a high rated LB, that can be a true game changer for us.

I'm going to reserve judgment, one way or another, until I see the W/L column, and how our defense performs.

Tearing sh!t up this season. If those three stay healthy, along with front uglies, don't think things will be to bad. Can't wait.

Sal will do well as he brings in the big guns. I really like the references to him screeming at the d to get to the qb. I don't care what anyone says the pass rush is pure desire and we didn't have it last year.

Excellent points. Even if we had Sal day 1, he still would have had to work with the limited talent he had. Saban had to do the same thing when he took over at Bama except he didn't have to start over from scratch like we did.

More to it than desire, gotta have some muscles, talent, and coaching/development. I can have all the desire i want but if I can't get there no sack.
