I'm Sold

Here's my post press conference analysis of Dooley and his recruiting practices:

1) The VFL program is going to be one of the best thing that ever happened to the University of Tennessee football program. Dooley uses it as a determining factor in recruiting. If a kid is interested in it, then that helps to show what kind of kid he is looking at.

2) He is looking long term. He's not thinking about getting the best talent, or about the 5* that MIGHT get in or be trouble. He's thinking about guys who will come in and contribute and stay for a full four years, and who will keep our depth up.

3) He does not give a care about stars. He has his way of evaluating, but it has nothing to do with stars. He said he appreciates the ratings that sites like Rivals and Scout does, but he is more concerned about what he looks at and sees with his eyes.

4) He filled needs with this class. Lots of OL, DB's, got some good DL, some quality LB's, and a few skill players. He especially made an effort to find some special teams players.

5) He wanted to get size, speed and character. He said he wants us to be bigger, faster, tougher than anyone else. Would rather be on the giving end of big hits rather than receiving end.

I really really really appreciate our coach. I feel like he does things the way they should be done. I trust him, and I know he will build our program back to where it used to be and needs to be. It's all about the word he used 20 billion times...process.

In short....I'm Sold. What do yall think?

Do you think that the lack of a big time DT besides Couch will cause one of these OL to swap sides of the ball?

Good post.

For one, I trust the coaches in their evaluations over a few scouts from Rivals.

I know Rivals listed him as signed as did LWS (I think), but I never saw anything official from Tennessee.

He said he is very concerned about minimizing risks. Meaning getting guys who are not academic casualities, or future residents of the state. He wants good character guys who are going to come in and do well. He said the average GPA of the class was 3.0 and the ACT score was a 20. That's outstanding.

Generally I agree, although I hope at some point Dooley cares about picking up 5* guys.

Blue chip recruits are absolutely, unarguably the most critical part of building a championship team.

I think having Marlon Walls, Malik Jackson, Montori Hughes and Saulsberry will help. We're not completely inept at that position.

Most OL also play DL in high school, but I don't see any of this class' OL switching to DL unless something serious happens.
