| | Senior Member | I had no intention of making a defense of Rogers... only pointing out what seems to be a pretty significant double standard. Rivera made drops in critical situations. I think Downs looked good on his few chances. I only saw one ball thrown to Clear- he caught it. |

| There was nothing right about the running game last year. Too much blame to go around. |

We ran the ball straight up the gut 90% of the time. Rivera was the least of our problems last year. I don't ever remember him having difficulties blocking, but if I was Rivera, I wouldn't block either. With the combination of not getting fed the ball when he was clearly wide open several times, the direction of each run play (straight up the middle), plus the fact that our starting running back was either going to run right into a lineman or get tripped up by the turf monster, what difference would it make whether he blocked or not. My point is that he's a good tight end, but I consider last year as a Murphy's Law kinda year where it seemed like even the good players either got hurt or didn't play up to their potential. Next year, If we can get some winning momentum, it will translate into all of our players mindsets and things will click.
But to stay on topic, Patterson looks like a good prospect. I don't ever put expectations on an incoming player, but if he is as good as advertised, I'd say we'll have one of if not the best receiving corps in the nation. |
