Anyways, I do know how "cocky" NFL teams and GMs can be. I'm a Titans fan. I lived through Chris Henry. But seriously, There's still at least 10 QBs that are ranked ahead of Crompton right now and to be honest, 10 QBs aren't getting drafted this year. I know people will point at his stats and how they're getting better and all that but breaking down the stats, he's got a lot of padding in them. Not to mention he still isn't being asked to make difficult reads or many progressions past two options. Also, in the NFL they aren't going to move around the pocket on almost every single passing play to make things easier on him. And before people ask, these are the QBs who are rated higher than Crompton at this point.

Sam Bradford
Jimmy Clausen
Jake Locker
Tony Pike
Colt McCoy
Tim Tebow
Pat Devlin
Ryan Mallett
Dan LeFevour
Tim Hiller
Rusty Smith
Zac Robinson
Jarrett Brown
Darryl Clark

That's 14, with 5 underclassmen that could all quite possibly declare early for the draft due to the Sam Bradford incident as well as the looming rookie salary cap. If he interviews well at pro days and combines and shows he has a brain between his ears he could move up a little past guys like Darryl Clark and Jarrett Brown, but I don't see him moving into top 10 QB discussion. Don't get me wrong though, I will most certainly eat my crow if he does as the draft process is very fluid and anything can happen. I just don't see it.
I would like to just start off by saying I obviously don't know how cocky NFL teams are... I fear for my life if I say otherwise...

Besides that, your post is right on. Crompton may be the man here but it will end here. The fact that he is still making minimal progressions makes his shift to the NFL impossible.

Seriously...JC getting drafted by a team like the Patriots, Eagles, Dallas, etc...he could excel as a backup...like Matt Schaub did with Atlanta, and end up starting somewhere a few years down the road.
Personally, I think Dallas would be perfect...maybe even the Titans. Romo had Brad Johnson backing him up last year, so they could have a steal as a backup with JC if he has a great QB coach.

As far as the reads are concerned...you and I don't know yet what he's fully capable of. You're discounting the fact that JC has, unlike the other QB's you've mentioned, had to go through 4 different OC's...name one QB in that list that could thrive under those conditions...and while having a porous OL and having subpar WR play. The playcalling isn't just for JC's benefit, but the whole offense...it helps the OL (with vastly undersized Sullins brothers especially). What's more is, we are seeing him sit in the pocket more and go through his reads and make NFL type decisions and throws. He's improving considerably with every passing week...and you don't get his kind of numbers by smoke and mirrors. It requires coaching and execution by the players.

I'm now relatively convinced that JC, if he were in Texas' system, USC or OK, for example...he could've thrived these past few years. CLK recruited JC, as did Mark Richt and others. CLK saw some ability that you and I were not aware of, and it's now bearing itself out...so don't again be so quick to sell him short. JC is by far a better NFL QB prospect than Tebow. His mechanics are considerably better and he makes throws I haven't seen out of Tebow yet. It's Tebow's feet and size that are getting him accolades...not his ability as a passer.
