Staff Changes?

How long do staff members generally have to turn things around? Looking at our passing game, Crompton seems like he's not making any progress and the WR's have looked lost thus far.

I'm not making any judgements or calling for heads. We are, afterall, only 4 games into the new regimes first year. Just wondering if Kiffin will reach a point where some changes need to be made and how long it would take to get to that point if things don't improve.

I would like to think that no changes would be made for at least the first couple of years so the staff can get the players they want in here and work with them.

Is there a general rule of thumb in these situations?

The general rule is to find some material to work with first. Thanks to Fulmer we were left high and dry on talent.

As much as I hate to sound like a Bammer circa 2006, but we need to wait until Kiffin gets more of his guys in there before we start winning. This staff is good, but our players at some spots *cough* QB and O-Line *cough* are awful.

Yes, he should be given two to three years to get his players in and compete. I don't think there is a coach in the country that could do anything with some of the talent, or lack there of, we have on the roster currently. Sometimes it's not the X's and O's but the Jimmy's and Joe's....

What's he gonna do, fire himself as the OC? Chaney has the title, but Kiffin's the one making the calls. Our defense has so far been even better this year than it was last with arguably less talent and experience, so there is no reason to make any sort of adjustments there.

I was talking more about position coaches.

The qbs and recievers are the only positions that have really underwhelmed. Our O-line is patchwork with Richards and McNeil hurt. Our WR's are young and inexperienced, for the most part, and there's only so much you can do with what we have at the qb position.

Last year, we finished, I think, 113th in the nation in total offense. Four games into this season, I read where we were in the mid 70's. That to me, is improvement and is reason to feel good about the staff. Question is, can we keep that up going into the SEC play. Hope we improve on that at seasons end, and let this staff show us that they can coach 'em up.

Oh... I forgot. We do need more work on special teams. The last two games have made me wonder if Fulmer was back on the field personally coaching our ST.

While it isn't showing up in the W-L columns yet, things are already turning around.

We commit very few penalties, and even fewer of the boneheaded variety. You could always count on a few false start penalties under fulmer, as well as a couple of delay of games, illegal procedures, personal fouls, etc. etc. The difference in discipline between this year and last is striking.

The cupboard was bare at QB and O-line. When this gets shored up, combine that with our current disclipline and game planning and we will be back with avengence, its just going to take some time...

Great post. Penalties have been better than I have ever seen them and the effort level is high.

People seem to forget that we could not run the football last year and we have been able to run the ball against every team this year so far, including Florida. That is a vast improvement.

Considering Lane works with QB's just as much as Reaves.. I don't think he would want to make any changes.. Like other's have said.. You need product before you can sell something.. He' doesn't have any product right now..

The answer is the third year. As Gerneral Jack stated we are seeing thing turning around now. The 2010 team will have major issue at O-line and QB. That does not mean we are not going to be a better team in 2010. Just means there is going to be inexperienced and have depth problems. He does not have to win a title in 2011 but we need to be a top 25 team. IMO we are right on track. Having all these true freshmen play this year will payoff. We just need to be patient.
