hoops Back to the Glory Years of Tn Basketball

Last night looked like the Tn Basketball teams of old. Maybe we can't get above our raising. I believe that was the worst played game for the Vols that I have tried to sit through since Coach Pearl arrived. We absolutely could not offer anything that resembled a defense against Meeks.
Really Sad!

You need to check yourself and get a life.

We had a lot of football to be excited about the day our worst team beat you AGAIN, just two days before we announced our new coach.

Being a Vol fan is MUCH better than following a 1-sport, 1-gender athletic department like yours. I should know - I used to do it.

The basketball team will come together and they will be fine. Bruce Pearl just needs to sit this team down and tell them "until the play together as a team they are going to lose alone!"

I dont see enough sharing of the basketball and when someone drives to the lane the only person fighting to get rebounds is Chism or Smith. I remember last year when Lofton was grabing rebounds or Dane Bradshaw the year before that for God sakes! Yeah we are a great Offensive Rebounding team because we miss so many dang shots!

Scotty Hopson, Cameron Tatum, Bobby Maze, and JP Prince need to step it up big time. They are the weakest 4 guys on the court every night.
And Yes JP you foul most of the time you guard someone so quit looking back at Bruce with that dumb found look on your face like "I did not touch him"....
And am I the only person that hates when Hopson hits 1 three and he jumps up and down and puts this big smile on his face like he has hit 35 that night or something..... YOU HIT 1 THREE POINTER WHOOO HOOO NOW TURN AROUND AND PLAY SOME DANG DEFENSE!!!!!!!!!!!

Regular season basketball means nothing. All Pearl needs to do is have the team peaking at tourney time and make a run then. If by some chance they do not make the 64 or at least get to the sweet 16 then there is a problem.

I know we have had some awful basketball seasons, but my point is we probably weren't expecting what we were this season.
Football's most disappointing would have to be the 2008 team (5-7) and the 1988 team that started 0-6 before winning their last 5. That team had talent (Reggie Cobb, et al) and just underachieved.

Which brings me to this question, when was the last time when both the footballl and basketball team had a losing season in the same academic year?

I disagree with the '77 squad. That was expected to be a rebuilding year for Coach Majors. His 1988 squad, however, WAS very disappointing when they started 0-6. Can you imagine if that team had played in the age of message boards like this one?

if this team would have realized that they could drive the lane and dunk on these guys that game last night would have been a blow-out.People.dont understand the size factor we have over most any opponent we face.......to bad are players dont realize that to. We may be a little slower but at times are lineup consists of players that stand no shorter than 6-6. Thats pitiful that they cant drive on anyone..Someone needs to toughin these guys up if we expect to get into the tourney at the end of the season.

what was the size advantage last night? You do recall we had Tyler Smith guarding either Patterson or Stevenson for large portions of the game, right?

2001 football team---had one of the biggest chokes in history against an average lsu team in the SEC title game, costing UT a national title.

Basketball ain't over yet! Never been that good anyway.

Football was a bust, but not like 2005??? Ranked #2-3 and did not go to a bowl. Bigger bust.

UT women...ALL FRESHMEN! Get a life. They will be fine.

Get off the ledge, take a step back, breathe, and have a shot of Dickel! Relax. It is not the end of the world. IT HAS BEEN MUCH WORSE ON THE HILL THAN THIS YEAR!
