Something is weird about that.
This might have a little something to do with it.

I remember watching a show awhile back before the NFL draft about Jamarcus russell. He was driving a brand new escalade.I though to myself his family is either well off or he had a dang good paying job while he was enrolled at LSU.

I believe julio jones and a few other bama players have hummers. Someone on clemson's staff made comments about it before their game with the bammers this year.

But it helps to have a staff full of pretty good recruiters.

Miles may not be the brightest guy but he is a ballsy coach with a NC ring. He plays underclassmen and LSU has become a powerhouse football school in a fun state. It doesn't surprise me at all that he recruits so well. Keep in mind that lots of Texas kids grow up as LSU fans and Louisiana, Mississippi and southern Alabama produce some pretty good talent as well.

Miles seems like a fun guy. LSU has been more successful than any school this decade except for UF and USC. Nobody is surprised that those schools recruit so well.

Goes on at every school, including UT. I doubt it was his. It was probably "loaned" to him by a booster.

I am starting to think the sports media may have something to do with this. At least with the bammers, the saban hire was so widely reported on that they got a ton of PR.
Not to mention that saban has been made to be the "hot and sexy" coach to play for.

I think it has more to do with the fact that two of our last three seasons have been HORRIBLE losing seasons with no bowls. It amazes me that we have a recruiting class as good as we do this year. You used to see UT featured on ESPN highlights all the time, ESPN commercials, Video games, etc. and now you never do. That does alot to help your brand when you are playing good and the abscence of it does alot to hurt your brand when you are playing bad. That national brand recognition sells recruits as much as anything. It's not ESPN's fault that we aren't on their highlights and commercials anymore...the person responsible for that is no longer.

Plus... even when we were winning... ESPN never has given UT much respect. Remember the whole ESPN.com fiasco about grades with our players? None of the analysts over there talk good about UT. With CPF joining the College Football crew over there, maybe that'll change a little bit.

Until the ink is on the dotted line it all means as much as I'm willing to bet our position changes between now and signing day especially after all those visits.

I think it is misleading that we are going to "out recruit" the FL/LSU's/GA's/USC's. What we need to do is keep up and find ways to win. There's just too much in-state talent for those other guys. Even in our "great" '07 class where we were ranked #3 who was #1? FL. USC was #2 but had an average star ranking of 4.22. (stop and ponder that for a moment) 1/3 of their class was 5* and all but 2 of the rest were 4*. The only reason they weren't #1 is they signed 9 fewer players. But hey, we finished ahead of LSU at #4 right? Yes, but we had to sign 6 more players to do it since the averaged rank of their players was still better than ours.

Don't get carried away with final rankings of any given class weighted by sheer # of recruits, we can only fit 11 on the field at a time anyway. How good are the players we sign year over year is what matters and the competition isn't going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

*This was intended for this thread and apparently wound up in another as well. Apologies to anyone unfortuante enough to read my ramblings twice.
