So to answer your question...It does surprise me how much we are willing to pay a d-line coach, even if he is a fantastic recruiter. Don't get me wrong I'm excited to have him, but I'm also a little nervous about how much $$ UT is throwing at a coaching staff with mixed track records (except Monte) | You haven't kept up with this whole story the last 3 or 4 days have you?

| That is all just priceless! LSU fans are incredibly pissed we got coach O. I love it. I was just about horse laughing as i watch the Chick-Fil-A bowl when i saw the ticker crank out that we had coach O.
However I mean is LSU the big winners here? I mean they did get Cheif.... I guess LSU fans will enjoy it when their secondary NEVER plays press man and their safeties get to line up 30 yards off the line of scrimmage and their first move is to back peddle.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
GO VOLS! WE HAVE A FRICKIN MONSTER IN OUR COACHING STAFF!!!!!!! |

| So does UT now have the 2 highest paid non-Head Coaches in the SEC?
Even though there are a lot of knucklehead LSU fans, LSU is still far and away my 2nd SEC team (though a distant 2nd).

| What I find amusing is the entire board over there was saying how ridiculous it was how much we were paying him. Yet that is what they were going to offer as well...
Must sting that Orgeron picked us over the "hometown" team and it had NOTHING to do with money... Posted via VolNation Mobile |

| Also, I find it funny that everybody is cussing Jimmy Sexton when he is the best there is at his job. God forbid he excels at his job. lol

I was simply stating how UT has exponentially increased assistant coaches salaries' in the SEC.
I get the whole salary war thing with LSU and/or NO Saints. While I can understand Monte's price tag, I'm just saying that I'm a bit surprised at how much we are willing to pay a position coach (mind you..one I'm glad to have) |

I think they were deluded enough to think that that's the only amount that we could pay to get him to reconsider going there and that's what they're rolling with.

| You wouldve thought after the Miles to Michigan screwup LSU fans wouldve learned not to believe the media rumors until an official confirmation. This is the funniest thing I've seen in a while after the stupidity on here a day ago. |

We needed a staff upgrade a long time ago, but you have to spend money to do that.
After what I heard late Tue. nite, if Lane really wanted like it looks like he did, it did not sound like 600k would get him here.

Plus I don't think some of them realize the appeal for working under one of, if not the best, defensive minds to ever wear a headset. Posted via VolNation Mobile |

I agree with what you're saying but I have no problem with paying him what he's getting. The new TV contracts are going to bring a lot more money to the athletic program and that should cover the higher salaries. Our boosters have deeper pockets than many other SEC schools. That's been the case for a long time. We can afford top notch facilities and the biggest stadium in the south because of that. No reason that shouldn't be the case with coaches as well.

Word was Lsu was in for 600k, sounds like that wasn't true.
But we were still trying to convince him to leave home.
