Jon Gruden (Tampa Bay Bucs) discussion

was said today on 104.5 the Zone. It seems as if the Vandy homer George Plaster is pretty sure based on a "source" they have that Gruden is gonna be our next HC. Anyone can to elaborate on this theory??

The Gruden rumors are strange. There would seem to be no logical reason for Gruden to even slightly consider the job, but still for some reason his name pops up over and over again.

ditto

I remember last year talking about it. I figured we may have a shot because he was struggling at that time last year, but he turned it around. This year I didn't think we had a chance with him. He just received a 3 year extension, & is 5-3, with winning the NFC South well in reach. I'm not sure why he would come here unless he is sick of the NFL.

gruden was also listed as a likely replacement on the sporting news.

There again . . . It makes no sense on any level, but it's not just random people on the internet putting the rumor out there.

I wouldnt go so far as to say it defies logic and makes no sense...the man has a ton of money already, and would be paid a ton of money to come here, if he so desires. He would be coaching football either way, so he could be tired of Tampa, doesnt like the front office, wants a change, likes knoxville, wants to spend more time with his family, whatever the reason. I could see arguments for staying in the NFL or coming to Tennessee.

Here's a question. If you have a winning team in the NFL where you don't have to recruit players and make millions of dollars to do your job would you forsake that for less money and have to work your ass off to recruit high school football players to come to your school while they are being wooed by other schools? Hmmm?

You could be right, but in my mind a successful career NFL guy taking a 7 figure pay cut from a contract he just signed to move away from the beach and have to spend time recruiting is pretty insane.

I have a feeling that Carroll, Saban and Petrino would still be in the NFL if they hadn't sucked at it.

There is a logical reason Gruden would come here, although I doubt it would be enough to actually retain him as coach. He was a grad assistant here, and his wife and her family are from Knoxville. But the next coach is Bill Cowher...wait and see.
