John Gruden is not coming to UT!

I hope I'm wrong, but it's not happening. It's easier to win in the NFL and more money. WHY would he leave? Give 1 good reason. Again...I hope I'm wrong. He would be great.

Is it not possibly we could announce gruden as our new coach and he still coach the bucks to finish out the year? I dont understand what the big deal is. Is it not possible for someone like butch davis be our next coach and he still coach NC for the rest of the year and his bowl game? Please tell me why its not possible for that to happen? Dont bring up the issue of recruiting. Kids will come to play for UT whoever we have as coach. Fulmer is not leaving TN. He will recruit for us! He will give our new coach any type of helpful info he may have.

Go back and read about 1/2 of the previous 1300 posts for reason why he wouldnt. Then go back and read the other 1/2 for reasons he would.

And its easier to win in the NFL huh? One woulda thought youd have a lot more perfect seasons by now then wouldnt you?

The NFL you get to pick who you want (draft and FA).
Coaches have the players more in OTA's and such. Teams that are 1-15 can turn into playoff team in 1 year. That does not happen in college. That is why its easier to win in the NFL than college. Plus you are working with adults and not 18-20 yr old kids.

I would love to get Gruden, but it's not going to happen!

I think UT shoud look at New Orleans OC and Kippy Brown. Kippy has ties to UT and would be very good! He has NFL ties that he could get as Assis. coaches. Just an idea.

Many coaches will tell you it is much easier to work with those !8 and 20 year old kids than dealing with the many huge egos they so often have to deal with in the NFL.

I wouldn't say one is really easier than the other when it comes to the players but there is certainly a trade off.

I'd like cowher or gruden, but gruden would probably be a better college coach.

Gruden's decision will not be based on where is it easiest to coach! The money nor how well his team is doing will not be the issue in his decision. It will be based on personal factors. Such as his wife's father dying and her wanting to be closer to her mother or him wanting to have the time to spending more time with his sons.

Picking a fight with Glazer and the NFL s going to be messy. It is quite possible that UT wants Gruden and Gruden wants UT but his contract may simply prevent it. Its certain to take a couple weeks even if he does want to come here.

Thats why you have other prospects just in case this deal falls apart.
Thats also why a search firm is vital. How else you going to keep it quiet.

I wish some of you guys would make me feel better. I posted this in another thread but thought it was appropriate here. I am not sold on Gruden. He could be great, but I think it is too risky. He is tough, a disciplinarian and a good NFL coach, but that does not translate to college for coaches that have never been a HC in college and came from the NFL. I just don't have a good feeling about Gruden. Here is the post I posted in another thread. It was from a Tampa paper and it makes sense. It makes me think even more, Gruden would not be a good choice.

An article was read on the Sports Monster this morning from a Tampa paper and the columnist said no way Gruden is coming to Tennessee. He said Gruden gets frustrated with 6-10 year NFL veterans that have a hard time understanding his complex schemes, no way that would work in college. He also said that Gruden does not have the patience to deal with kids at the college level, or the parents and fans. He said it will not happen, nor would it work.

Tim Brewster went 1-11 last year. Now he's 7-2.

And again, the whole contract issue comes up. It has been said that Gruden has a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave to coach in college football...but no one can seem to come up with anything concrete to back that statement up.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Gruden is our new head coach.

Gruden 27 Saban 13

Two touchdowns is a spanking by NFL standards.
