If Hamilton chooses to pursue some mediocre (i.e. "realistic") ones, he will have to start to find a new head coach in two years if he is not fired by then.

I don't think a guy like Mike Leach, Brian Kelly would unify the fanbase. I don't think they can recruit at all. The time needed to implement an exotic offense is too long to be practical in SECE.

None of the coaches other than Gruden or possibly Davis or Kiffin can rekindle my passion to UT football. I don't care if UT goes 3-9 or 5-7. I am telling you: I will watch this Saturday's game simply because I want to see EB breaks two NCAA record, and that is it.

The longer it goes, the more likely it looks like Gruden and Hammy have been connected for some time. Basilio's mention that Hammy has made insiders sign affidavits only points stronger in this direction.
What else is to say? Gruden denied it last week.

You could be onto something. He never did say he wasn't interested exactly. He skirted around the issue with some smooth talk like a politician would. Wishful thinking....

But I'm hoping!

Gruden would obviously bring a ton of PASSION back to UT and MANY fans.....I just think the guy is the PERFECT fit.....have NO clue if he is giving the ole coach speak we have heard for years....but, I personally feel (just a gut feeling) that he is interested and just might already be our next coach.....yeah, probably is just wishful thinking...but, who knows?

If it's not Gruden......I do like Whittingham....maybe not the "Big" name so many of us are looking for...but, the guy looks to be one heck of a coach and he knows Urban's philosophy.....coming from the defensive side of the ball, maybe this is our ticket....again, who knows?

It's got to be someone that is in a major coaching gig (which could be a number of people, but the reason we are so secretive about it, is because the coach doesn't want his program to find out until the end of the season) We still have a vary good shot at Gruden, however I'm a little worried about having a coach by the end of December, i wouldn't see him announcing it until after the playoffs....which would be cutting it really close!

Get over it. Gruden isn't coming to Knoxville. He is 7-3 with the Bucs and he loves the NFL.

Well that settles it. I'm convinced now. I don't know how I could have been so stupid.

It might help to watch Bucs football as well. An offense that struggles to score inside the 20, good defense, never really able to put away an opponent....you might like them. This comes from a long time Buc fan.

I do pay a lot of attn to Bucs football recently. They are kinda of like Titans: solid defense, no superstar on offense but solid on QB and RBs, and most importantly, they keep winning football games.

The only difference between a Bucs fan and me is that I hope they don't make Playoffs (for this year only...)

Playing inspired football and winning will unify the fanbase. Hamilton's job isn't to appease 100% of the fanbase, particularly the fair weather fans. His job is to hire the candidate that he best believes will win games & championships, and represent our University well.

Gruden turned the Raiders around in just a few years, no small feat.

If he became the coach at UT - and a even bigger "if" - if he stayed for any time at all, I say he could get it done here. But who's to say he would stick around? Getting him, however improbable that is, would soon lead to "Is Gruden Leaving" rumors, IMO.

What is your source that says we have a shot at Gruden or is that just your opinion?

As much as I WOULD like it to be Gruden, I dont think it will happen.
Hamilton stated that he would have this accomplished by mid December.
If it were in fact Gruden, I personally feel that Hamilton would have stated mid January before we would have someone since the NFL season would not be over for him by mid December and he wouldnt/couldnt announce it till then.

Again, this is just my opinion.
I could only hope it would be Gruden...
