So, I googled the recent news on Gruden and UT head coach. And he's claiming that he wants, and will, remain in the NFL. He just past Tony Dungi as winningist coach in the Bucs Franchise, so I honestly doubt the Glazers will let he slip underneath their fingertips. Plus, if you're doing good in the NFL, why on earth would you want to go to college? The part about him saying he was eager to finish out the rest of the season interests me because he limits it to just this season. Maybe I am looking too far into it and interpretting it the way I want to but it sounded like his plans for the future beyond this season weren't exactly set in stone.

When asked about the OSU job in 01
Gruden: Not interested in Ohio State

“I have not talked to anybody from Ohio State,” Gruden said Tuesday. “I'm happy to be where I am. We've got some things we're trying to accomplish in Oakland, and that's what I'm concentrating on right now.”

On 12/2/04, about the Notre Dame job
Gruden officially states he has no interest in ND job - Sports

"I love Notre Dame. I went to high school there. My dad coached Joe Montana and Vagas Ferguson there," Gruden said. "I'm not a candidate for that job. I've got the best job in football, and I've got to work hard to keep it. I wish Notre Dame well, I'll always be a big fan, but I guarantee I'm not candidate for that job."

On Nov. 19, 2007, when asked about the Michigan Job.

Later in the news conference, the reporter asked Gruden about a report linking him to the head coaching job at Michigan following Lloyd Carr's retirement.

"I really don't know who you are, man,'' a perturbed Gruden responded, "but you're throwing me some fastballs.''

Addressing the question, Gruden said, "I have what I think is the best job in all of football. I'm very happy to be here.''

And Nov. 10, 2008 when ask about Tennessee
Bucs Report Sports - from TBO.com Blogs

“I’ve said from the very beginning, this is the only job I’ve ever wanted,” Gruden said. “As long as the Glazers will have me, I’ll be here. Got a lot of respect for Tennessee. I grew up there, a little bit. My wife is from there. This is where I want to be. I can only make that so clear.”

Gruden did not even want to entertain the follow-up question about if he could ever see himself as a college coach.

“I don’t even want to start that,” Gruden said. “I’ve wanted to be in the NFL my whole life. This is something I’m really excited to do. This is where I want to be. I’ll leave it at that.”

Sounds pretty consistent

Gruden now wanting this job isn't a surprise. Why would he?

"As long as the Glazers will have me, I’ll be here."

imo, this is the sentence that's the hardest to dismiss.
