Hmm Woody Paige, Tampa Bay newspaper and local radio shows, Clay Travis, The writers on volsquest, yeah you are right it is just us, lets just wait and see what happens who knows.

There have been enough rummors out there that if he was not interested he would have publicly said so already.

Yeah I have been listening to the Tampa radio shows down here "I am in sarasota for the week" and they have pretty much done nothing but laugh at us for the rumors...I do not take ANYTHING Woody Paige says as gospel...But hey Your going to believe what You want to believe..If we get him, AWESOME!...You can tell me you told me so...I am just not seeing it happen...But everybody has their own opinion.

I don't think he has been asked publicly. He wouldn't just come out and say anything unless questioned on it. So I'm not sure the silence really means anything at this point.

It would have been much better if his belief in Gruden wasn't largely predicated on Woody Paige's comments.

Basically, we have 1) the Clay Travis radio interview, 2) the Woody Paige comments, and 3) the comments from Gruden's mother-in-law from the respected Vol fan on the other site.

Unfortunately, none of that is good enough to really sink our teeth into. It provides fuel for the fire, but its all second hand and or speculation at best.

If Gruden is the guy... start hoping TB loses its next 7 games! Then he's ours by mid December, and I don't think we'd know before then.

There are also TB articles and rumors, one in particular states he asked the press not to ask him about it for now this is a TB blog rumor so take it for what it is worth. The articles range from the rumor is ridiculous to this is more likely than most think.

I don't believe his comment was about getting him, moreso that he is being considered for the job. I'm not getting the warm fuzzies either. My gut say about 10% chance of getting him.

Yeah, I've seen it all, didn't mention those.

But the part in bold above, how did I miss that? Are you talking about the article where he thanks the owners for the opportunity? He wasn't asked specifically about the Vols was he?

Here's something to consider:

Gruden as the HC.

Lane Kiffin as the Assistant Head Coach, and Offensive Coordinator.

Monte Kiffin as the D-coordinator.

Gruden can coach, but can he recruit and relate to the collegiate athlete? Lane can.

Lane can recruit, but he's young and most wonder how much of the Raiders fall-out was all Al Davis being crazy, and how much was it that it was far beyond Lane's current capabilities and experience level. A year or two under Gruden should clear those concerns up, quite nicely.

Monte Kiffin has always said that it was a dream of his to someday coach with his son. This seems to be just such a once-in-a-liftime opportunity.
Crazy? Maybe, but also consider the following:

Reputable mainstream news media reported that Lane was in Knoxville this week, playing golf. Do you think that he just toted his golf clubs down for an interview. Maybe he's here, as in already staying here. Really think about this for a minute - while he was clearly the far and away most mentioned candidate for every job in America a few weeks ago, you hardly hear it now, outside of being in conjunction with Tennessee.

Hamilton may not feel he can wait for Gruden's hire until after the season, or risk losing his recruits. What if Lane is here, and overseeing the current staff's efforts until then - getting some feel for these guys and the current state of their relationship. Maybe he's introduced himself to 1 or 2 of them.

Notice how many of the players went from threatening to transfer on Monday to apologetic on Thursday? What might have changed? Well, the story about Lane in Knoxville broke on Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on the media outlet you heard it. Coincidence? Maybe they've met him.

If Lane had a couple of seasons under Gruden, he could have any job he wanted, in either college or the pros. He can't say that now, as even Tennessee is hesitant on him for the HC job.

How could they possibly keep this a secret? Well, let me ask you this - how come most of the rumors about Gruden are coming from places other than Knoxville - including the national media? Because even if a local media outlet did know it, it would be professional suicide to ever leak it out - they'd be blackballed at UT forever - sealing their fate in Knoxville. It's those outside of Knoxville who will tell you what's happening not those who are here. Recall the Dave Hooker incident where he talked to Inky Johnson - a player who, at that time, was known to never be able to play a single down of ball again - outside of the UT SID? His press credentials were revoked for three games - you think other reporters noticed that?

We know Lane came to Knoxville, but when did he leave - and where have you seen or heard of him being since? Mystery, ain't it?

Worth considering, at least.
