| Our 2nd Team Defense sucks. It was an afternoon of ones versus twos, although head coach Phillip Fulmer described the action a little less desirably.
"I don't really know quite how to take this scrimmage," he said. "We've got a group of guys on the second team that has no idea how to play at this level. They have no idea, and that's very frustrating and very upsetting.
"But they won't see the field in certain spots unless it's absolutely necessary, I can assure you of that."
"We just weren't nearly as sharp (overall) as we needed to be."
This is not good news at all ,because you need to have depth to beat Florida, Georgia, Auburn. Or they are gonna run all over us and make the 1st team D tired. |

They have no idea, and that's very frustrating and very upsetting. |

| Well, considering this time last year we weren't sure of our Wrs and had no depth in the secondary or DL this doesn't concern me that much. However, for us to get back to the level we were on in the 90's we need a strong second team. At least we have the first team pretty much set for the first time in a long time.
Also, Florida and Georgia have depth problems of their own at certain positions, so it's not like we are the only ones. |

That's 5 potential 2nd teamers (4 of our backup front 7 guys) that didn't participate. One guy out of position makes it hard enough on the other 10, 2 or 3 and it's gonna be really tough sledding. | Thats right. I totally forgot about Gerald Williams and those guys not playing. That makes me feel somewhat better about our Defense. Still would like have to more depth though. |

| I think he is trying to light a fire under their butt. They will be all right , but just the same, hopefully they will never be on the field as a group in games. |

| 2 bad recruiting classes out of four might have a little something to do with that. Its one thing to build depth. Its another to build quality depth. Its probably not as bad as phil made it out to be. Those classes at some time are going to show up though. This isn't the vols of the late 90's. |

| Cartervol, the 2nd team includes Martin, Walker, Langley, Donald, and probably some other highly recruited guys. Waggner and Thomas the one notable bright spots were 3*.
I think it has more to do with youth and Hardesty unleashing the inner beast than anything we should get real worked up over.
When he's been at his best, alot of tacklers have bounced of MH like ping-pong balls... and he gained weight and muscle mass over the off season. |

| Its unusual to see Fulmer speaking so frankly... rather than the typical coach-speak. I hope it was as much motivational as anything.
Hopefully, its also a signal that our first string is just BA. |

You can have those classes in the big ten,not in the sec. Thats just reality. Hardesty looked good, hope he stays healthy. I care not about star rankings when evaluating a recruit. I just look at who else is recruiting him. That usually tells me all i need to know. |

| Fulmer was on am560 this morning in Memphis and, as I recall, mentioned that BOTH sides of the 2nd string were sucking wind after yesterday's practice...

| Sounds to me like those boys need some good ole fashioned Nebraska style conditioning if they are that bad....Makes you wonder what coach saw in them to begin with when he recruited them. |
