| We have as much chance as we did in 98.
A chance? Yes
Likely? No
Either way.....IT'S GREAT TO BE A TENNESSEE VOL!

The question that was proposed was CAN we win a championship. There's a world of difference between asking if you "can" win a championship as opposed to asking if you "will" win a championship.
I guarantee you fans of teams like Florida, Southern Cal, Georgia,Ohio State, Oklahoma, etc are not asking themselves if they CAN win a championship. They know they can. They don't question whether their team is good enough. They know they have the talent, depth, coaching, etc to win. For them it's a question of will they win it. All I'm saying is that we're still questioning ourselves.
Now I'm not saying that Tennessee cannot win a NC because we're questioning it. I'm saying that the mere fact that we are questioning it is because we have doubts about our team's ability. There's a reason we are questioning it. Perhaps the question should've been asked, WILL we win a NC. Of course this team could stun all of us and win a NC. However if say, Southern Cal wins the NC will it really surprise anyone? No, of course not. That's the difference between being good and being elite.

| Alot of very interesting answers. Odds are definitely against us but this is college football. No one had the Vols a contender in 1998. But I wouldn't go out and bet my paycheck or even six pack on this year. As with the beginning of every season hope is in the air. Either that or CPF is just passing gas. |

| We all know that everything has to go right to win a NC! Just look at 1998. . .Tee Martin was a solid quarterback but no one expected him to be as efficient as he was. Overall I think the Vols have tremendous talent and speed. If Crompton can learn real fast and stay away from typical rookie mistakes, UT can be really, really good. We also must have some help from other teams knocking each other off. . .The first step in this long shot scenario is to have a crisp and solid outing at UCLA. Then we'll know more!
Go Vols!!

| HELL YES WE CAN WIN IT ALL!!!
Every team needs a little luck but its def possible. We are a tough program and some games have not come out the way we wanted them too but its football. We have a new offense and a new scheme. We will be less predictable and should be able to move the ball. We have a super talented O-line, great group of running backs, and some real talented wideouts and slot recievers. We have a new tight end with Warren that should also help us stretch the field. Then our defensive side of the ball looks pretty damn good itself. We have great depth and talent in the secondary and that is what lost us both games last year to Florida and Alabama. Our defensive Front seems to be a lot faster then last year and we got a great transfer in G Williams to replace Mayo. This is the making of a special team this year. I BELIEVE!!!! |

| I think the SEC championship game is a more realistic target, but optimism is great.
Theres been alot of terms used like "suprise team", and "sleeper" from the analysts. I'd say the Vols are ranked preseason fairly. From my observation, the preseason top 5 are all fairly capable of winning the National Championship, however we know damn well some of them wont make it there w/out 2 losses. Anyone ranked around 10-17 has a tougher hill to climb and that seems a bit unfair imo. Teams ranked 17 and up are just numbers to me.
