UT hockey
How is the UT hockey team doing? I'm a huge hockey fan and I was wondering how they are doing up there? They thumped Vandy and MTSU a few weeks ago.

The Ice Vols are doing reasonably well. They handled
Georgia Tech this weekend and have won about 75% of their games. They played in the Coliseum this weekend instead of the IceArium, which is a nice step up for the program. They are fun to watch, and have developed a nice program.

The IceVols flew through regionals in Atlanta this weekend and qualified for the National Tournament in Rochester, MN. They are a 3 seed at Nationals with a 16-8 record, and will play San Diego State in the first round.

It's the program's second-straight nationals appearance and seventh overall.

have they played anyone with a varsity team? I wonder how they are compared to teams like that.

Not even close.

We have several quality players...but mostly club hockey is trying to recruit the best players not getting a look from D1 programs; plus hope some quality players happen to land at UT and then discover a team is on campus. No scholarships allowed at our level.

Only 3 players I know of in the history of the program have ever played NCAA and transferred here.

I know several good Middle Tennessee players headed to UT next year. You need to get some names from the Nashville High school hockey leagues and get some of those guys in orange

Around 15 of the guys on this year's roster played either high school or junior hockey in the Nashville area. Nashville and Knoxville are both producing some good talent lately. Blake Geoffrion is a good example. He is from Nashville, signed and played D1 NCAA at Wisconsin, and was drafted by the Preds last year.

We lured one kid away from D1 Vermont last year, got a state champion goalie from Massachusetts this year, and have the Connecticut HS Player of the Year and his brother coming next season. Also have 2 Canadians and a Russian...have to recruit big if you want to win big.

The Knoxville Warriors (CAK/Webb/Catholic)'s team has been doing pretty good and winning in the Knoxville league. They should take a look at some of those players.
