He's Going To Punt...

I can just feel it. Phil's going to punt this opportunity. Im looking at the guys he's interviewed and I am completely underwhelmed. When Rob Spence is the best candidate out of 4, then I cant help but feel Phil's going to disappoint us. Has it ever been more obvious that Fulmer's scared to hire somone that might be a threat to succeed him? For those of you wishing for Hatcher, chalk it, Phil would never hire a guy that could supplant him in the big office. Phil has not forgotten how Johnny moved on. My fingers are crossed, but I know Phil's going to end up hiring someone that leaves anyone with a modicum of sense scratching their head.

It is beginning to look like those who warned that this would happen are absolutely right. Could the search be a clever ruse performed to keep us distracted only to invite Trooper back into the fold to work with Adkins? We shall know shortly.

I would like to think that the job is a good one - but do you think that the conservative reigns that Fulmer tends to put on the offense severely limits the size of the potential pool of interested (and good) candidates?

This isn't meant to attack Fulmer for his conservative style necessarily, but more of a question of OC freedom.

Ironically, if Phil said he wouldn't hire anyone on his current staff, would that technically exclude Troop since he's got the deal with OSU?

Offensive linemen have to stick together. That is actually my hesitation about Marrone. Those guys aren't the most innovative on the block.

So true, but they could be seen as ideal protege by CPF.

i'm not sold on innovation as much as I am execution and understanding what defenses are doing and how they react.

Innovation is much easier to sell to an 18 year old speedster. My novel idea is to combine them both.
