Thoughts on an 8th home game

Scout.com: Eight home games in '09? I'd rather see a road or neutral game to complete the 2009 schedule. I think that having eight home games would cause our schedule to lose some respect.

An ACC team might be a good choice if it can be scheduled. "Safe" yet respectable opponents would include UVA, UNC and maybe NC State. VaTech or Clemson would be a great matchups but riskier.

This opening in '09 is the season opener slot right?

Just two years out, the only game that is likely to happen is a small school home game I would think...

Yep . . . I'd bet on a directional school.

That game has Middle Tennessee or Florida Atlantic written all over it.

I was thinking MTSU as well, but they already have Clemson, Memphis, and Maryland on their 2009 schedule. I think they might want to get at least one winnable ooc game.

I think we should play VT in a neutral site. Bristol Motor Speedway baby! Do you know how much attention that would draw? 160,000 to see UT vs. VT! Recruits would love it. Hamilton needs to do this in 2009.

I remember seeing previously last year that we were supposed to play NCSU as an opener for 2008. I see that is no longer there. What happened to that?

There are no bad seats at Thunder Valley.

As long as you're watching a 1/2 mile race track and not a football game.

I believe NC State had to be pushed out due to new conference scheduling reasons (Va Tech/Boston College).

I don't believe you'll see us playing a Va Tech-type with UCLA on the schedule...just not going to happen. I think a potential bet is a low-level BCS conference school or WAC, etc (Air Force, TCU, etc type schools...a B-level game along the lines of Southern Miss this year).

I agree that we will do ourselves harm by scheduling another MTSU-type school (C-level school) with an eighth home game.

I think Fulmer would rather leave the date open than schedule Air Force again.

lol...well, I wasn't suggesting Air Force. There are about 50 other "similar" Air Force's out there.

Let's hope they schedule more wisely this time...rather than a team with a gimmick offense that our players took too lightly.
