Place-kicker

I think one of the most over-looked position for this year's team is the kicker. James Wilhoit is gone, and the duties go to either Britton Colquitt or Daniel Lincoln. Lincoln was horrible last fall in practice, but did improve this spring. Fulmer said Colquitt would probably get the job but, I don't know about the same guy doing kickoffs, punts, field goals and extra points. The kicking game has decided so many of our games and games across the country. A good kicking game can win you a game and a bad kicking game can lose you several. I hope Lincoln has improved a lot so he can take that job and run with it the next 4 years.

I hear he does good inside 40 and is getting better from behind 40. I think by atleast midseason he will take over field goals and should start at kicker. He will be the extra point guy until he proves himself.

I agree. He may try some of the short field goals and extra points, but Colquit will kick the long ones. He has been very good on long field goals.

So did this kid Lincoln just wake up one day and find out he's a kicker at a division 1a school? I find it outrageously hard to believe that a specialist who kicks (and thats all he does) shows up on campus and kicks so bad a punter is handed the kicking job. Gloryosky this kid is in for a cultureshock when he finds out a certain degree of responsibility and effort is required of him. Janicowski how ever the heck you spell it was drafted by the Raiders out of Florida State, I believe 1st round...this guy was all world and sent a kicking tape to Bowden hoping he'd get a shot at the job...Lincoln gets a orange uniform and all and after he gets it..cant put a green walnut in a cistern...whats wrong with this picture and in the Gators game won't this likely be a factor? thoughts?

He played other positions in high school. I think he was a SS or LB. He is ripped and can pack a punch, unlike Colquitt who tries to trip people.

If he was so huge he would be playing SS or LB in college instead of kicker. I would dare say the return men will be bigger than he is.

Do you know the difference between kicking in high school and college?

Do you know the difference in the balls and how that effects a kicker?

Do you know the difference in Tee's between high school and college?

Some take longer to adjust, some develop a hitch in their mechanics trying too hard and its takes someone else to pinpoint it.

I suggest before popping off with that tripe you do a little research about Lincoln....Colquitt did find a hitch in Lincoln's kick he had developed trying too hard to adjust to the college game and it improved his kicking tremendously, I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that Colquitt had the placekicking job just yet

Just what we need. A kicker that busts heads but can't kick.

Yes 67 I'm aware of those differences. What I'm trying to point out is of all the available kickers from the high school level it just seems to me we couldve gotten one who needed less developing after he got here. I'm also pointing out many of our conference games are very close and the kickers many times decide it, I'd like to have confidence in the kicking position...and from the research I did do...what I saw isn't encouraging. I sincerely hope your boy Lincoln does well.

Lincoln was one a pleasant surprises of the spring. He did great after the first day. I'd say that Colquitt will punt, maybe do kickoffs, and kick the long FGs. Lincoln will kick short to intermediate FGs, PATs, and maybe kickoffs. Our kicking will be solid.

Even if Lincoln doesn't knock it out from the start, we still have Colquitt.
