Good read and some great info on Coach Friend.

Never forget that he's another guy with knowledge and experience as a OC so that makes 3 guys with OC experience to help game plan and make adjustments during games.

I honestly believe that in 2 or 3 years we'll have a tough O that can play smashmouth, run the ball O or that can be a quick strike passing Team that will again become feared like we used to be.

I really like the coaches that Pruitt brought in to build and run our O!!!

VFL...GBO!!!

"Friend’s impact has been immediate, as he coached up the Vols offensive line this spring better than most anyone thought possible, to the extent it dominated the first-team defensive line in the spring game."

Statistics and results indicate that neither one was even serviceable last year so I'm hoping to see the players at least move up to that level in 2018.

Not sure whether to be excited about our offensive improvements or concerned about our D....

Not being a smart aleck but maybe neither. The change in scheme, techniques, and OL philosophy from extreme finesse to power was bound to help the OL.

That's why I never put much stock in the spring game. Did one side look good, or did the other side look bad?

I suspect he will do much better than Mahoney or Wells. Those two previous coaches were absolute garbage.
But wasn't Wells a decent coach before working for Jones in Jones' STUPID "system"? Mahoney became Jones' fall guy after working for him for about a decade.

Don't underestimate how much of the OL problems lie directly at the feet of Butch Jones.

That is a fair point. Have Wells or Mahoney landed any jobs at other schools? Pretty telling if they have not.

As soon as recruits see the improvement our OL makes in 2018 they will be lining up to be coached by Will Friend...
These coaches are actually putting the pieces of the team together to allow them to play to their strengths....

It is said that a team makes it biggest improvement by the 3rd game of the season...
I rarely saw that kind of improvement with the Vols the last few seasons...it looked more like a team lost with the exception of one season...

This season will be different...we will see the difference on the field

Dominating our starting DLine, one of the worst in the country, is like being the smartest kid in summer school.

This will change (imo), but, it's exactly what I want the WV mindset to be / thinking and preparing for, all summer long.

Maybe, but the only job Mahoney could land after Butch let him go was a Division II school in West Virginia where he had an "in" with is nephew already on the staff.

He's since been hired at East Carolina. If Butch was to blame for Mahoney's poor coaching of the oline, then we'll soon find out since last year ECU's oline was terrible at opening holes, but actually decent at protecting the QB, and a hallmark of Mahoney's olines were that they weren't good at either.

We were getting off-season puff pieces this time last year after hiring a new OL coach and we still somehow regressed from awful 2016 OL play....

Let's see them give our QB more than 2 seconds to throw and knocking UF on their a-s in the 4th quarter before we anoint Friend as the 2nd coming...

Has ANY journalist written a piece on a new position coach that said they were trash? They only pile on after the coach is fired. Most journos are like stock analysts, who tell you to sell the thing after it's already dropped like a rock.
