Diversity Bev should be fired for hiring this incomepent ******* because if she did any due dilligence she would have seen how bad he was at K-State...

This writer, Bill Reiter, was spot-on about Currie back in 2012...

Weber hire shows K-State in big trouble | FOX Sports

About the firing of Frank Martin...
"Either John Currie is borderline incompetent at the job, with a shaky idea of how to win in a place like Manhattan, or else he’s in it for himself and would rather run off the right guy because he doesn’t like him than change his own ways in order to keep him.

If it’s the former, Currie will get his due in two or three years. Running off Martin from a place like Kansas State is a fireable offense. Being college basketball, that bill won’t come due for a few years.

But there’s always option two, which I suspect to be behind most of this: That Currie made this hire for Currie and Currie’s career. Weber has a squeaky-clean image, giving Currie some high marks with high-minded university presidents. Weber can win with Martin’s players, giving Currie a possible one- or two-year window of faux achievement. And Currie, who will never get credit for Bill Snyder and didn’t have the good sense to want credit for keeping Frank Martin, finally has a hire of his own to smack on his resume and wave around to prospective employers.

Which is why I think hiring Bruce Weber is entirely about John Currie and not at all about Bruce Weber. K-State’s AD, having run out the right guy, now has brought in as a replacement someone perfectly built to get John Currie a job elsewhere."

And just think, if Butch could've pulled out a winning record last season he's still the AD at UT.

She absolutley should be shown the door. Incompetence of this magnitude at this level is inexcusable. Some posters will jump in and say she fired him so she should be praised, but putting out a fire you started after the cops arrive doesn't excuse you criminally or from liable.

Just have faith in Phil. Bleeds orange...knows what it takes to win. Davenport did not solely hire Currie.

I don't like her as much as the next guy, but if we're placing blame we have to look at DePietro, BOT, Haslam...

It’s what happens when you hire yankees. They underestimate the importance of college football in the south. Turning a profit isn’t good enough, the football team has to be competitive too.

K-State just lost in the elite 8. Id say Weber was a pretty good hire.

USC didnt even make the tournament this year. They had a good run last year but Frank Martin is no coaching legend

Im not sure who you're referring to, but Currie was born in NC and was a UT Alum. Im pretty sure he knew what football means to UT, he apparently just wasnt very bright.

If you're referring to Davenport, she was born in Kentucky. So you're still wrong.

It's hard for accountants to understand how the office politics work at a big time program.

Eventually y’all gotta let all this internal strife stuff go or it’s going to haunt you right through the Fulmer/Pruitt reign and beyond.

To be fair Currie would have hired Leach, which wouldn't have been bad at all.

Leach has done what? ONE division championship in 16 or so YEARS!???

No thanks. The only thing he'd have brought Volnation would have been an increase in pirate flags in the Vol Navy.

He's probably got less than 10 years left to coach at this point, but If Leach wanted the job then he should have been hired over Butch.

Davenport was just hiring the guy she was told to hire, being a pawn for who Haslam wanted. Who knows how much actual input she had in it, my guess is not very much. Who knows who she actually wanted, if anyone, other than Currie at the time. By I firmly believe Currie was hired due to that’s who the Haslams wanted, because they could still control a lot of what goes on in the AD through him and have their power. The Haslams didn’t want Blackburn or Fulmer (either who should have gotten it in the first place over Currie) as the AD because they couldnt control either of them.

Someway, somehow during the Schiano incident things changed. Davenport and others (some boosters and some BOT members) seen what was going on with Currie and the Haslams, and decided to make a change. After Curries firing, the Haslams wanted the assistant AD (can’t remember his name) so they could have another puppet heading the AD. With Fulmer becoming AD, it shows Davenport and others have decided to at the very least limit what control the Haslams now have, and did what was best for the university. I’m very glad she did

You do not want Bev to be fired at this point and allow Bill Haslam to pick the next chancellor of UT. She went against the Haslams when she appointed Phil, she no longer sides with them.

Everybody in the world except Davenport knew that David Blackburn was the obvious choice. He is top 5% AD.

Next time we need to do an AD search, let's let Calhoun's Restaurant conduct the search. They had right last time but no one would listen.

I like the job he’s currently doing.
