| Well done Lady Vols.
I now end my period of self-censorship on the subject. And while I remain committed to my position that women's college basketball is approximately 1/10,000th as entertaining as the men's game, and while I still believe that it is wasteful and inappropriate for the women's tournament to try to imitate the men's tournament, I will admit that its a big deal for the people who are involved and they deserve their day in the sun. |

I would also agree that the talent pool for all D 1 Women's programs would allude to the fact that 64 teams is about 32 too many. weren't there several teams in this tourny with losing records?
anyway, it does simply boil down to personal preference, and that last line is all that matters. the accomplishment is what is, and it should only matter that those accomplishments are placed on their own and kept separate from a comparison with the men's game, cause there is no comparison.
there was a big debate on the radio yesterday about CPS and here perceived ability to coach the men's game based n here experience as a HC at the women's level......it was quite interesting to hear some of the real views of both listeners and the hosts......

I'm a lady vol fan and I'm not devastated because he is right, women's basketball is 1/10,000th entertaining as the men's game. I'm a women's basketball fan and even I know that.

Not just me that feels this way, my friend. Witness the disparity in posting on this board when UT was playing OSU in the men's S16 versus the posting for the women's FINALS. Imagine if the men had reached the finals of the NCAA this year? The server would have exploded!
I'm not saying that the women's game is inherently pointless or valueless. What I am saying is that it should stop pretending to be something it isn't. |

Here's the rub. You can't do everything like the men's game does, with the tournament and the rules, etc., etc., and then flinch when it gets compared to the men's game. If the proponents of the women's game want to advocate that it be treated exactly the same way, then they have to be prepared to deal with the comparison even when its not friendly. |

Exactly what is it trying to pretend to be?

Actually, I do not agree with that. I don't see why she would not be an excellent x's and o's kind of coach. Would she have trouble with the respect factor? Most assuredly, yes. But if she managed to overcome that, then I think she'd be a fine men's coach as she understands the game as well as anyone. |

I'm not saying that the women's game is inherently pointless or valueless. What I am saying is that it should stop pretending to be something it isn't. | The smaller amount of posting actually shows that some have the restraint to not try and crap on threads that they don't care about. Others feel like it is their duty to "educate" us poor, unfortunate souls that enjoy watching the LV play.
Womens bball being less popular should not allow anyone here to take away another's enjoyment for the sport. We get it, you don't like it and that's fine. There are planty of other threads here to keep you busy. If not, try the arcade... |

For example, having Swin Cash as an NBA Analyst does not help the game a bit. She's frickin annoying.

It is trying to be on a par with the men's game. The tournament, the final four, even the commentators try to treat it like a mirror image of the men's game. Ergo, it is going to get compared to the men's game. |

but some of the rules are different, and the overall style of play is different enough to not warrant the comparisons it inevitably gets.

There is a need for a sober and realistic assessment of the use of valuable and increasingly scarce resources on this game. |
