Tennessee was stuck with the ever un-cool Adidas for years and years it seems.. Then in 2015 we finally get our Nike contract only for Adidas's popularity to subsequently skyrocket.

I'm 21 years old, and I'm still in tune with the trends. Adidas's NMD and Ultra Boost line are murdering Nike right now. Those are definitely the top two shoes on the market for my age group (minus the unaffordable Yeezy's).

Not just the shoes are popular, either. Stores are lined with Adidas track pants, windbreakers and t-shirts now, too. And it seems like this turnaround happened right when Tennessee broke away from the company.

I remember being 21. My 73 Firebird was 10 years old and I looked good sitting in it with my parachute pants and converse.

Everyone has jumped ship in college football on Adidas. Our Adidas unis sucked, freaking tire tread garbage. Ours are much better now.

You still have that Firebird? If not, I bet you wish you hadn't traded it for that station wagon.

Was it that chalky green color? Those were sharp.

I remember those outlined white jerseys of the 90's. I understand the complaint about not being able to discern the numbers but I hated those jerseys!

Adidas - German
Nike - AMERICAN!

Adidas are made in Indonesia, while Nikes are made in...

China?

... not sure now where I was going with this. :ermm: Never mind.

Pretty much to the same unknown location the rest of the thread went. But at least you had fun coloring, so it's cool.

Adidas is garbage and is not more popular with any age group. I literally see zero people walking around with Adidas on.

They are popular with:

Run DMC tribute groups
Soccer teams
People that like the leaf retro design
Soccer teams
Korn fans

I think that's it.

Adidas is not "murdering" Nike in any way. They might have some hype right now with Kanye and the Boost line, but Nike is still the top dog and it's not even close.

All jokes aside (that's a lot of em too), OP has a decent point here guys. Remember, it's still off-season.

He's coming at this from the CFB "marketing" angle. Butch Jones pushed hard for the switch to Nike. The reason that it was important to him was because it actually matters in recruiting. Remember, if a teenager "LIKES" a certain team for "some reason", then they will value a UT offer more when they receive it. As petty as it may seem to us old enough to know that important things are a lot deeper than fashion, this gives us at least a slight edge in the door on potential future recruits. IMO, that's what Jones was after. And, taking over the dumpster fire he did in 13', he has done a pretty jam up job in the recruiting area.

Remember, from a monetary standpoint, we are sacrificing millions ($5m iirc) each year being with Nike instead of Adidas. To me, that's hard to accept unless it brings big recruiting return translating into wins. I don't know, but maybe if we win some championships, the contract pays more own the road.
