From Eagles Right Tackle Lane Johnson, when asked what is Barnett's best attribute:
“His lean," Johnson said of Barnett's best attribute following Tuesday's practice. "I thought he had the best lean in the draft, he was compared to Myles Garrett. His get off might not be as fast as Garrett’s, but his lean and his bend is probably the best I’ve seen in a while. He’s a great pickup for us.”

Article also talked about his "get off" is faster than they expected and he displayed a "repertoire" of pass rushing moves, including a vicious spin move at the end of practice.

I'm glad to see that Derek is thriving on the biggest stage, so far. Even though Vol fans and prob some current and former SEC QB's and LT's already knew he would.

I keep saying, in a couple of years people are going to be saying "Myles Who?"

Cleveland pulled a typical Cleveland.

I've always thought there's too much emphasis on "measurable's" and not enough on "production" on every level of scouting.

Barnett flat out got it done in high school and college, and he will continue to be productive in the NFL.

Inb4, D4H comes to tell us Garrett is a future Hall of Famer and Barnett isn't as good as him.

Preach.

I think Barnett and Jim Schwartz will be a match made in heaven as well. Schwartz has been licking his chops for a cold-blooded pass rushing specialist like Barnett for a while. DB will compliment Long-Cox :hi:, really well.

The majority of the other NFL teams would have done the same thing.

Yea. Barnett may very well end up being better than Garrett, but every team would have taken MG with the first pick. Lets be glad that Barnett went to a defense that I actually think will be a good fit for him and not Cleveland.

I agree with this, but most NFL teams would still have taken Garrett and 1. His physical gifts were just too much to pass up, but Garrett doesn't have to drive to be a consistent pro bowler imo. Barnett will have a more productive NFL career because of whats above the shoulders. His drive and instincts are the reason he overtook the Ministers sack record. 33 sacks in 3 seasons against the best competition in CFB. Oh and he was the only player in SEC history with double digit sacks for three straight years.

Yup, Barnett couldn't have been put in a better defensive scheme. He is talior made for Jim Schwartz.

When you look at their stats and how they played against top competition, it looks like Barnett clearly comes out on top. So I'm kind of surprised that it's so unanimous that MG was the better prospect. Maybe the "experts" will turn out to be right, but I won't be surprised if Barnett has the better career.

Barnett is a true workman of the position. He's no Clowney or Garrett in terms of natural talent but he's exceptionally well-rounded in all departments- pass rushing, run stopping, ball pursuit, even coverage. He's also a leader on the field and plays with a certain drive that inspires his teammates. Really a franchise player. There wasnt a DE with a better overall skillset in this draft. Garrett has the better raw skills but he's not as consistent or game-changing as D.B. Gonna be fun to watch him, hope he stays healthy and plays for many years.

I'm a Cowboys fan, but I love my Vols and always root for them no matter where they play. And I'm hoping Barnett goes out there and wins Defensive Rookie of the Year. Idk if he has to sack Prescott a dozen times to do it, either.

And a majority of the NFL teams would be wrong. Barnett is just a better player. You go by results.

Agree. NFL teams are wrong as much as they are right. Add in that Cleveland had the option of trading back instead of taking Garrett. So they took who they wanted to take just like they have in the past. Trade back, get more picks and take Barnett as well. For a roster that needs rebuilt it was a no brainer like the Titans proved last year. Except Cleveland had to Cleveland.

This. While I don't doubt the NFL scouts and their ability to see upside, I also think Garrett will end up with a Clowney kind of career. A whole lotta hype for a whole lotta money for a whole lotta nothing.

I could be wrong, Garrett could go into beast mode and start wrecking fools. But I also see what he wasn't doing against top competition in college and could easily see that translate over to pro.

I know Clowney didn't have a good first couple of years but he was an absolute beast last year without JJ on the other side for most of the year.

That is what made Dungy a successful coach and in the HOF....he always said "film don't lie"

I've always said Barnett would be a solid 10 year starter. He just won't be as good as Garrett. Physically Barnett has maxed out his talent. Garrett isn't even close to his peak. That is why he went 1st overall and why he will be a future hall of famer.

Agreed, two of the Best QBs right now are 5'11 or smaller Brees and Wilson....Delanie Walker is consistently in the pro bowl and he is only 6 ft. Sproles is tiny but productive. But everyone wants the "prototype"....PreviousResults matter little to alot of them, and I find that funny....
