ESPN names SEC players with most pressure on them this spring

Tennessee - Jonathan Kongbo, defensive lineman

What ESPN said: The once big-time recruit didn't exactly impress during his debut season. The former four-star recruit and No. 1 juco defensive end in the 2015 class played in 13 games, but registered just 11 tackles and one sack. He also had just three tackles for loss. There's time for the redshirt junior to rebound, but Tennessee is in desperate need of quality bodies along its defensive front, and Kongbo needs to show the skill the Volunteers brought him in for. He also needs to figure out if his home is inside or outside.

He doesn't need to figure out his position. He played inside out of necessity. As a DE, he wasn't going to unseat Barnett or Vereen as a starter and with the injuries at the DT position he was needed to help shore up the middle.

Articles like this seem to be written more off of the numbers produced rather than actually watching the games and looking at the reasons behind why the situation is what it is.

Any time you have a new starting QB, the greatest pressure falls on them.

And it isn't close.

You just wrote the article in one sentence...and it makes sense.

Don't be expecting a call from ESPN anytime soon about a writing position.

You nailed it.

Of course, your average sports "journalist" is about as well-informed as a ham sandwich.

Wow dude! Why the hate for ham sandwiches? Did you get choked on one somewhere along the way?

I've eaten plenty of ham sandwiches that were much more informed than the average sports journalist.

There were no ham sandwiches harmed in the posting of this thread, however if I was a ham sandwich, I'd sue ESPN for defamation!

Playing out of position (due to piss poor recruiting) is a big reason for the explosion of injuries.

Don't worry, Guarantano will be up to the challenge

link ?

Kid has never played a snap in college , so nobody knows how he will do. Not saying he wont be good but as of right now nobody knows. First time he throws a pick or fumbles then people will be calling him a bust.

Wrong folks will blame it on Coach Jones and say if "insert current flavor of the day coach" were coaching the team he would not have made the mistake.

Or they will say the other one that didn't start should be starting.

Give it a rest dude. Your nagging is getting a bit tiresome.

Disagree. People playing out of position was due to an explosion of injuries (and dismissal). We lost Tuttle, KMac and O'brian....were forced to play underclassmen who weren't ready for full time duty and DE's as DT's who did not have the weight or experience for the position.

Show me, if you would, where there was piss poor recruiting on the D-line.

As long as he does this in the playoff after a 13-0 start, I'll try to refrain.

Dormady. He's been groomed for years to come out of the gate and beat GT. If he fails, not only does he sit to JG but it's probably Butch's career and it's probably UT's season. That young man has the weight of the world on him right now. We need to build him up and let him know we believe in him as fans.
