Speak for yourself on the "Thought we would lose to Cal". They were what .500 in the Pac-10 the previous year and whipped Portland State I thought they were hyped too much. Much like Tennessee in 2005.

Your fanbase, IMO, would be much improved if you ended the thought process of "we might lose."

Please don't do that. You sound JUST like a Cal fan - "It was Longshore's first start, Thompson had a cast." If they can't have excuses, neither can anyone else.

I agree. Cal was overhyped and coming all the way across the country for their opener without a proven QB. It really wasn't that shocking that we beat the crap out of them.

CalBears,

If you keep up that "Just open your mind hippie speak" it will not fly anywhere in here. So don't expect to many offers on your new spiritual way of thinking of football.

I don't see game vs CAL the same as UT vs Vandy. CAL will come to play. We have good chance to win I think but I would not say a win vs CAL is guaranteed. Are you?

One reason I'm really confident in our chances in 2007 is because Erik Ainge has played extremely well on the road in 2004 and 2006, especially big ballgames.

No win is guaranteed. Not one single win. However, knowing what I know about our roster, which is a lot, and knowing what I know about their roster, which is enough, I think UT will win by a 7-14 points.

As for your question, it depends on the game. If tenn beats cal again convincingly I will have no choice but to admit cal is constantly overrated. I would have said the same thing if we had lost to A&M. If it's a close game and tenn pulls it out, I'm not sure that lends itself to a "cal is always overrated" argument.

I agree. I doubt it will be anywhere near as easy as 2006, but I laugh a little when I hear somebody play the "hostile environment" card as a big benefit for Cal. Sure it's an advantage, but it's not exactly The Swamp or Death Valley.

Last year Cal went 0 - 2 against top 25. Until they beat a top 25 team, they are overrated.

In all my years of following Vols football I have learned to not say we'll beat someone by X amount. They will more often then not not cover. Might win but not cover. Becareful.

I think this might slip into some kind of cultural differences between the conferences. SEC folk demand excellence and expect to win. The thought a loss doesn't get into the mind because it's not progressive.

I would get deeper into this but I really don't feel like it. Anyone catch what I'm saying.

It's like an Army. In the Army you are brainwashed in a positive sence of you will win, you are going to suceed, failure is not an option.

Catch what I'm getting at?

Why would we do that? Based upon all those "early indications pointing towards a Cal victory" that the author so eloquently spelled out for us?

Well, I don't think Cal is always overrated - not that you implied that I said that. Anyway, Cal has been good since Tedford came.

If Tennessee wins, I would hope the delusional Cal fans would just shut up. It was amazing in the 6th week of the season, both teams had 1 loss, and Bears fans were saying Cal was better.

These days, everyone thinks they know so much from just watching games - they're the best talent evaluators. However, what happens on the field is the ultimate indicator in college football.
