Recruiting has fallen off without the legacy commits. National Championships require, at minimum, two Top-10 classes within the trailing four years. And, basically, NCs require three minimum. Only Cam Newton and co did it with just two Top 10 classes. I hope Butch laughs at us and says "I told you so" but no hard-working, overlooked, class attending, football smart, 3* star superhero group led by Keanu Reeves has ever lifted the crystal football.

We can diamond-in-the-rough until Jafar is back in his tiny little living space, but Top-10 classes required. In the SEC, Top-10 classes are required just to challenge for the East.

Team 120 has everything. EVERYTHING. Talent, experience, youth, QB play, depth, dominating D-line, future NFL stars, Neyland Stadium, mom and apple pie.

Got to win it all now or sit back and wait til hell freezes over. No pressure boys!

Yes. This season is the fork in the road that will decide the program's direction for the near future.

Let's see Clemson played for the NC in 2015. The four years before that they were 9th, 17th, 15th and 15th in recruiting based on the composite team rankings.

Oklahoma was in the playoffs - four years before that they were 14th, 14th, 16th and 12th in the ratings.

Yup, you can't rate a recruiting class until 3 to four years after they are here. Remember how it was the end of the world we didn't get in state Marlon Brown? And he did what when he went to UGA?

A recruiting rank 6 team has fallen off in recruiting???? And it's only July????

We are 6 bc quanity...not quality. By feb this class will drop significally if we miss out on ton of quality. But recruiting hasn't met alot of expectations starting off.

And how many have the potential to rank up? And how knows who will change thier minds by feb? My point is we are fine and worrying about recruiting now is stupid. To say this year or bust is the same as saying this year or fire the coaches. The sky is not falling, the 3 stars are not the end, just chill out. Sometimes I wonder what the legions of the miserable would complain about if it weren't for football

Both had Heisman trophy finalist at QB. Hopefully we do this year.

Thank you for saying what I've been in saying.

Its now or NEVER.

Butch either wins it all this year puts Tennessee football back among the elite or we fall right back to irrelevance.

They didn't win it all and they don't play in the SEC.

Clemson was lucky that FSU was rebuilding. Watch how easily they get dismantled this year by an experienced FSU. Oklahoma plays in arguably the weakest conference among the power 5.

We play in the SEC where there are 5-6 teams recruiting perennially in the top 10.

To win in the SEC you need multiple top 5 classes.

Come on now you know how this works. If this class is not full of highly ranked guys by September or October, then its disappointing.

You know whats funny? There are people who are whining excessively about this class right now. These are probably the same people who have praised the coaching staff for rebuilding this roster to what it is now. So obviously Butch and the staff know something about talent. Yet it seems like they dont know anything about talent in this class. My point is, when some of these guys we have recruited get bumbed up in the rankings, the same ones who are whining will probably start praising again. Its both comical and pathetic.

A little more than a month to go before football time in Tennessee and anticipation of the best season we have had in many years. The cupboard is stocked for a few years to come and you negative nancys have to find something to gripe about. How about just relax and see what happens. There was no way the Cavs could come from 3-1 down, but they did. We will not start getting all the best players until we win something, which is going to happen soon. Sit back and enjoy the ride for a while, it is going to be a ride that lasts. Butch knows football. Butch knows how to recruit the best individuals.

OP is actually right on two things IMO ...
#1 As inaccurate as "stars" can be, the history is absolutely documented that you need >1 and prob >2 Top 10 classes to win a Natty. Numbers don't lie, and of course their can always be a "Cavs down 3-1" outlier in the future. Sorta like winning the lotto.
#2 THIS is the year we have to Win It. Not saying 17 or 18 is impossible, but we have had 2 awesome classes in the 4 yr cycle and decent others. But, the big deal this season is that our juniors and sophs have much greater experience than our National Title Competitors. We were forced to play so many FR from those 2 Top 5 classes ... that will pay off NOW and then we'll have another imbalance ... lots of Juniors and Seniors jumping to the NFL.

We need to WIN the SEC and make the Playoff. This will prove to recruits, parents, and HS coaches that we are back in the elite group. Searching for 25 more points next year won't cut it.

This is how Butch gets to the final phase of the rebuild. Being a proven winner that demands elite recruit's attention. That way we can reload the roster each year, redshirt great players for the future, and fill the NFL with top 2 rounds picks.

The only way UT stays in the top 20 with the proportions of 2*, 3*, and 4* players they have is if they drop some of the lower ranked players and replace them with 4/5* players.

Not many will rank up. It doesn't happen that often.

It is never "stupid" to worry about recruiting and especially considering the mantra during last year's recruiting cycle was "just wait til next year when TN is loaded with stud recruits".

Whether TN HSFB is loaded this year is debatable. The fact that UT has one of the 13 4* players in state with 5 already committed to other schools.... means there's plenty to "worry" about on the recruiting front.
