2 teams had at it last night. Both of them came in with legit defenses that shut down other teams all season. The major difference was supposedly on offense. One had the aged Sheriff, supposedly hobbling into his last rodeo while the other had the young Superman, supposedly the new and improved version of the Sheriff. Yet at games end, we see that the Sheriff somehow found a way to get 24 points on the board against a nasty Panther defense while Superman got limited to 10 by an equally nasty defense. Not to mention, who had a better QB rating?

What I dont understand is how Peyton doesnt get some serious credit for that? Sure, they had a tough time closing the door in the end zone but they DID do so. Peyton led drives that got scores on the board 4x (not including a nail in the coffin 2 point conversion). If Peyton had not done so, the story line today would be that the Panthers had an even nastier D than the Broncos. Besides that one interception there were few unforced errors on Peyton's part. Dont tell me that Kubiak should get all the credit for consistently beating the Panther's nasty defense - did you see the pass coverage they had? it was awesome.

I take nothing away from the Bronco D or the offensive coaches but it saddens me that everyone is acting like the Bronco D was so dominant that you could have plugged any old (young) QB in there and won against the Panther defense - that Denver won the SB (in part at least) NOT because Peyton was under center but in spite of it. Maybe I am just a Peyton homer but I just dont see it that way.

While I love peyton, his offense was only responsible fo really 6 points, as the defense set up the only offensive TD by fumble recovery on the 4 yard line, and they also had a Defensive TD, Broncos D won this game point black period.

The Broncos defense is credited with 7 of those points, and they recovered the ball deep in CAR territory too, no?

Also, I'm pretty sure that all of the cameras were pointed at Peyton in the last minute of playtime (last 5 minutes of the broadcast before the final whistle). He got the first post-game interview. The commissioner had a speech prepared just for him, even though he wasn't the MVP. They let him cash the check TWICE by letting him give his Budweiser speech on two separate occasions.

Make no mistake about it, if Peyton wanted everyone to be talking about him, he could have swung the influence that way. But he didn't want the talk or respect or whatever else, because he's a cool guy and he knows he earned everyone's respect a long, long time ago.

In the post-game breakdown, everyone was talking about how Peyton changed the game, how Peyton is a classy guy, how he's earned everyone's respect, etc.

Come on man, you can't really be trying to pitch this fit.

The Broncos had 194 yards of total offense. The 2 TD's were a result of the D.

Football is a team game. There have been many times when Manning had to carry the team. This time, it was the D's turn to carry the team.

The ring will still fit the same.

B.V.S. (Battered Vol Syndrome) is wide awake this morning after the SB.

I can't imagine why.

We dominated the Outback Bowl, Vols bball beat Florida, Vols bball beat Kentucky, we came back for a strong finish on NSD, Peyton just took the high road on Brady and Cam and won the Super Bowl on his way out the door. It's been a helluva year for Tennessee fans so far. I'm loving it.

Doesn't matter. Wouldn't have mattered if the Broncos lost. Manning is the greatest quarterback/teammate/role model for kids/give back guy of all time.........Waiting for the next one to come from team 120.

Manning and Newton had the same job last night, to not get the team beat and produce just enough against top-flight defenses to keep their team in position to win. One of the two of them was able to do that. Even with 5 sacks (at least one was a turf sack) and a pick by a fat lineman (poorly thrown, the receiver was open) Manning kept plugging away. Newton got flustered and lost his way, and ended up being a minus for his team.

I saw a statement from Busch that Manning didn't get paid to plug the beer. He just gives gracious help to those who support his sport I suppose. I did find it corny the second time that he used the same, obviously rehearsed line.

I was insulted for him that they kept asking him about retirement instead of talking about the game. I know they're just fishing for headlines but they had to know he wouldn't say either way, win or lose, last night. He should have made clear before the game that any reporter who asked about it would be under a lifetime ban from interviewing him, and the rest of the Broncos should have stepped up and said same goes for them. That's what scares reporters, losing access to the rich and famous.

Finally and most important improvement...the torch passing of the trophy by the MVPs was cool, but the final one should have been Brady, and he should have had to kneel and bow his head as he presented the trophy directly to Manning. Then Von Miller (as MVP) and Malik Jackson (VFL enforcer) should have had the honor of shoeing Brady in the ass, Ike Turner style, to remove him from the stage.

I am NOT saying the the primary reason for the win is Peyton's play - clearly the Defense was. All I am saying is that with another, less experienced QB, the Panther Defense might be the one we were discussing this morning.

And yes, I know ESPN, etc is giving Peyton the love (as they should) but its more for all he has done over his career and the game. I am just saying I am wondering why it seems he is not getting any credit for the offense last night? Granted it wasnt some high flying one but somehow, somehow he gets the points on the board needed to win.

And talking about Vol syndrome, just because Peyton has had to carry teams with his arm (younger) or mind (older) for years, doesnt mean that the script automatically is they finally carried him when they have an awesome D.

Makes me really wish that Peyton had this D (and protection) 10 years ago. I think the record books would have been even more lopsided than he has made them already.

Did you really believe that Brady or Montana lovers would ever give Peyton creadit as the GOAT? Even if he threw for 600 yards and won the game single handedly it would have not mattered to them because they would never admit they were wrong.

That's interesting that Busch said he didn't get paid.

I just assumed that he did, because Denver is a Coors town, and you'd think he'd plug them if he plugged anyone.

Believe he is part owner in an AB distributor in LA.

I don't see how you can use last night's game to seal Manning's legacy...other than the Broncos won.

IMO, his legacy was already sealed. Whether he's the greatest of all-time is a matter for debate. He's a 1st ballot guy regardless of last night.

13/23 for 141 yards with 0 TD's and 1 INT isn't what Manning's legacy is.

Its OK to be racist if you are black. Didnt you know? Thats what I learned from watching the beautiful and talented Beyonce half time tribute to the black panther party. :hi:

Really. How so?

Don't know @ that. But I have to say that if she/they were trying to be sexy, then she lost me. I'm happily married with a beautiful wife. I try to not lust over other men's wives, daughters, and girlfriends etc. I fail at that often too btw.

But, I must say, there was zero temptation to even deal with in that show. It was just bizarre and a little creepy to me. Guess I should be thankful. :-/

My wife, 14 and 12 year old sons and 10 year old daughter switched the channel when she came out and starting her gyrations (we enjoyed the first 2 acts however). My wife said that the NFL should realize that they can't compete with internet porn - so why try? The people that leer at her are probably leering elsewhere and will leave the half-time show in search of something else. Besides that, at some point women should wake up and ask why they have to dress half-naked to get attention at the half-time show - but the men don't have too? (btw - no homo) I just find the hypocrisy nauseating. As a father of a 10 year old daughter, I expect more. Other than that, the game/commercials/first two acts were awesome. Peyton and Denver's D rocked -
