expect a minimum of 10 or 11 wins and win the SEC and not be considered an unrealistic jerk?

Now that Butch has had his third full recruiting cycle, now that we kept all the good players from leaving early for the NFL, now that we have a senior QB, now that we have an awesome running game lead by a possible heisman contender, now that we are no longer a young team?

Considering that we only leave the state of Tennessee 3 times and two of those games will be against first year head coaches?

Can 2016 be the year that all the excuse mongers finally die off? Can it finally be OK for us to expect not to get embarrassed on national tv? Can we finally agree that these things are not OK?

It's finally time for Vols fandom to rise to the level it once was at, as kings of the SEC with expectations of nothing less than total domination.

Everyone said 2016 would be the year when we started this ride. Barring injuries, this year should be a good one. I said it's great to be a Tennessee VOL!!!

It's certainly now OK to put more in your title than "Is it now OK to...." so the rest of us have a little idea of what the topic is. I mean seriously ......

If ANY of our opponents get past the 50 yard line Butch should be fired! Immediately! Escort him off the field and to the bus terminal!

No.

There will always be coaching apologists out there that will throw players under the bus and questions someones fandom at the drop of a hat.

Atlanta or bust next year. No doubt.

Really? Or bust............meaning fire Butch?

If they don't make Atlanta it better be from barely and I mean barely being nudged out.....

In other words.....they had better really, really, really compete for the East top spot.

Anything less than that obviously would be a failure....

Recovery from battered Vol syndrome is possible. Opening up a 55gal. drum of whoop azz on the SEC next year should put folks on the road to recovery and should be the expectation.

This should be the year Tennessee wins double digits and should win the SEC east. I'd still stand behind Butch if it were another 9 win season though. Alabama, Florida and Georgia aren't gimmes. As for South Carolina, Missouri, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech, their programs are all messed up. Which leaves Vandy, Kentucky, Ohio, App St and Tenn Tech as what should be obvious wins. Though Florida and Georgia aren't gimmes, I'd still be disappointed at anything less than an SEC title game. I'm reasonable enough to understand that 9-3 with losses to the 3 aforementioned teams meaning no SEC title game and depending on how good of team you draw in your bowl, that 9-4 in the right context isn't the end of the world even though it's not progress we'd like. I definitely think this team can compete for an SEC title and playoff spot but the SEC is the SEC so who knows. Now if the team is 9-4 with wins over Alabama and Florida but loses to Vanderbilt and Ohio or something and then I'm more concerned because all bets are off at this point. What good is beating Bama if you lose to Vandy. So, 9-4 minimum for me but believe the team should finish higher based on where the program is at under Butch in his tenure.

Anything can happen in a football season. I would say it's reasonable to expect 10 or more but if we fall short of the mark we can't throw butch off the cliff. Hopefully history has shown us head coaching changes are a last resort

Yes.
This is the year that was expected to be a contender.

Maybe it would have been easier for some of you to have showed patience before, instead of getting yourselves all worked up in the meantime. :dunno:

Even with this recruiting class, I still predict we lose to Florida & Alabama in the regular season but beat Alabama in the S.E.C. Championship game.
That will make us a 10 - 2 regular season record and an S.E.C. Championship win would make us 11 - 2.
Before everyone gets upset about my prediction that we lose to Florida, think of how many times we have had the superior coach or the superior roster but still lost to them.
Other than the Tebow years, we have always felt that we could beat them.
I remember when we had DaRick & Hunter, all week long we thought we were going to beat them but Hunter was injured early on and we lost.
I remember when we had a superior team, other than the q.b. situation and Peterman got injured and we lost.
I remember when we played at home and we had the better team but they ran the ball for 300 yards and beat us.
I could go on and on but I chalk Florida as an automatic loss each year. Jinx!!!!

Yeah, go ahead...it's o.k. to expect us to win the SEC East. By now us fanatics actually expect us to go to Atlanta...no guarantees though, but yes, it's o.k...:)

GO VOLS!

I stopped at the word "expect". Please edit to change that word to 'hope'.

Seriously, I will be very disappointed if our defense gives up any significant points in the 4th quarter this year which will be the difference vs last year. This year we will hold on to our leads.

Actually, history has shown us head coaching changes SHOULD be a last resort.

Some fans seem to want a coaching change every time they change their BVDs. Learning anything from history is beyond their mentality.

Excuse mongers? What a classy guy. If and I mean IF you ever do go to games I'm glad you don't sit near me.

I don't recall Tennessee being embarrassed on national TV once last season. Our losses came by a combined 17 points.

In fact, the only two times you could actually say we were "embarrassed" in the last two seasons would be losses to Ole Miss and Alabama in 2014.

Unpopular opinion coming: I believe the most a fanbase, even one like Alabama, can EXPECT in a season is 9. Stay with me on this before calling me names.

A good team with superior talent should be able to handle 9 teams on their schedule, even in the SEC. But in a league like this, those other three games require a lot of intangibles and bounces of the ball to go a team's way. Very rarely does a team steamroll through a schedule.

Look at the seasons Alabama, Oklahoma and Ohio State had this year. Each of the three had at least three games where they either should have lost or the difference in the game was one or two big plays by a big player or a key turnover. Any of those teams could have easily gone 9-3.

If you're in a position where 9 wins is your floor, then you can be in the conversation to win 10, 11, 12 games. We are in that position. On our schedule, there are 9 teams that we are better than. There are two teams that I would say have equal or superior talent (Alabama and Georgia). Then there is Florida, who we are clearly better than, but they have had our number even in games where we should have won going away.

But walking in and "expecting" to win 11 or 12 games is not realistic.

You are right and wrong. We have a chance to win the East. After that we will have to see how it goes.

The Florida game. By the time we line up against them coach Mac will have Franks steroided up to a NFL quarterback like Rothliesberger. They will kill us and he'll get kicked off the team for breaking team rules. Like we exist to beat them, it's the same for them!
