As "Wide Receivers" coach and "Passing Game" coordinator has Azzanni overstayed his welcome here? He's basically had a season and a half with Dobbs and a slew of wide receivers to get a decent passing game together and has failed to do so.

The throw game has had weapons: size, speed, athleticism, freak skills.

The throw game has been disjointed and guess what - it's not Josh Dobbs's fault.

The throw game coordinator has underperformed and if this offense is about blocking first and catching second I don't think we're going to have all those weapons for much longer.

"Throw game" and O-line are the major work needed in the offseason to take what should have been a 10-win team and turn them into SEC Champions.

I can't think of a more germane discussion on VolNation right now.

Typical VN, LOL!

The fastest to reply and most vocal seem to always be those that know the least about college football and how to rebuild a team and a solid, consistent program.

Talk to any NFL coach and they'll tell you 1 of the most important things for a WR to learn is how to block correctly and successfully and our kids start to learn that from day 1 which is important if you want a solid run game which every team needs.

Any great WR coach will tell you that learning how to correctly become a good WR takes lots of time for most kids, even in the NFL, because there's lots more to it than running a route and catching a football.

Intelligent people know that great recruiting has been and always will be the number 1 most important thing in college football to build and maintain a great, successful program.

Coach Azzanni is a excellent recruiter and he's a huge part of why our Vols footVol tean has come so far in such a short period of time and that's 1 of the reasons he got a pay raise and a position improvement.

You can NOT have a good passing game until you have a solid O line that's good at pass blocking.

Any good O line coach will tell you it's much easier to learn how to run block and that pass blocking is much harder and takes much more time to perfect the pass blocking craft.

You can NOT have a good passing game if your QB is sporadic and not consistent with his passing accuracy, it just doesn't happen.

Every smart O coordinator that doesn't have all the pieces together for a good passing game will limit passing plays as much as he can until the pieces all come together and then the passing playbook will open up more.

Coaches can only call the plays that the team can execute well and they'll avoid what doesn't work well as much as they can in order to stack up as many WINS as they can throughout the season.

Our playcalling is limited because our QB isn't great with accuracy consistently, because our O line can't pass block consistently and the key is CONSISTENTLY.

You better be thankful that we have great recruiting from Coach Azzanni because without him we would probably still be a 5 Win team.

Those that can't see us getting better each year against some of the top 10 teams in the nation better take their blinders off and go try to actually learn what it really takes to rebuild a college football team back into a solid program.

Azzanni will probably get some good paying offers to leave our Vols soon and if we lose his great recruiting and coaching our Vols will start going backwards again.

Be very careful what you wish for folks, you might just get it and then badly regret it.

So silly and useless.

its all about the O-Line

That's it, its not rocket science.

The O-line is what needs to improve.

we had to many injures to a O-line with little depth.

Azzanni learned from Urban Liar, who typically uses a run first offense with short/medium passes.

However, the OLine cannot block long enough to allow big plays. Obviously we can do them, but there is no consistency.

Thanks for your childishness little boy, LOL!

Now go clean up your room like your Mother told you to do before people start getting there for Thanksgiving.

Azzanni's not even a good recruiter anymore. We just lost Kyle Davis to Auburn. 4 and 5* are not going to come here to block and get 3 targets a game.

I've summed up your post for you. Yeah, blame it on the QB.

Sorry that facts and truth upset you coug.

Also I did NOT put all the blame on the QB my friend.

Please find someone that really knows college football and all it takes to rebuild and maintain a consistent Winning program and all it takes to have a good passing game.

You'll feel better once you have a serious understanding of college football buddy.

This is all the drama attention you'll get from me today kid.

I don't play the childish drama arguements that go on and on.

We have a slew of receivers? Must have missed them all, sorry.

We have to fix our protection issues first (recruit SEC linemen). Then we can make our quarterback comfortable in the pocket. Then, if the receivers that we do have stay healthy they can finally begin to develop in this offense.

Program building takes time. We are only in year three. Give it a rest with the "Negative Nancy" threads & go eat some turkey. Geez.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Why don't we just let CBJ decide if and when an assistant coach needs to go? I think that is part of his job as the administrator of Vol football.

Any good coach will tell you that you can't be predictable and run the same 3 plays all season either. It takes balance. WRs aren't going to come to a school to block and get 300 yds receiving every year.

I would rather have a coach who can develop players vs a coach who can simply recruit. See its not what players you bring in but how you develop them ans how quickly its done. Prime example North, his production has regressed since he stepped foot on campus (injured this year). What about Malone? He certainly has regressed it would seem. You know the tell all sign for me that Mahoney and Azzani are both gone is DeBord is woking with the Oline and Jones is working with the WR's. Neither will be here next year.

Team 118 suffered from 46+/- Total Sacks, with great loss of yrd (Dobbs played 7 games for 118, but 5 of these sacks came against him at Mizz, while 5 were against Worley at OU, as I recall -- point being, a scrambling qb can be sacked as often as a non-scrambler -- yet, TN, without one of its best pass rushers from last year, sacked AL 5 times this year, and AL has a superb OL).

Team 119 is on track to have only 25+/- Total Sacks (IF, forbid, 2 at VAN and 2 at bowl), with fewer loss of yrd overall (likely).

2014 total passing yrd: 2,914
2015 total pass yrd, to-date: 2,196 (<2914 est, for the year).

If these Sack and Passing #'s are correct, sacks have dropped considerably (with, technically, the same qb), while total passing yrd has not increased.

With better OLine protection, and a summer of practice, one would expect better qb accuracy, more completions and more plays for long yrd, this year over last.

You speak about qb accuracy, as if the qb was getting sacked the same or more / had the same or less protection, than last year.

One thing for sure the words "Tennessee's passing game" did not strike fear in our opponents. Coaching, play calling, OL, or just scheme may contribute to our lack of a potent passing attack. Analyze that Butch and fix it.
